Plastic Prop Driver Empty Plastic Prop Driver

Post  anm2 Sat May 18, 2013 8:03 am

A couple of years ago, I purchased a parts lot off of ebay. The lot contained several .049 prop drivers and a few of them appear to be made out of plastic. Has anyone seen or heard of anything like that? Does anyone know what they were for? Thanks for any information. Andy

By prop driver do you mean drive plate? I have never seen a plastic one, a picture would be helpful if you can muster one up.

Never heard of a plastic drive plate, but some of the thrust washers that go behind it are plastic. I always use the steel ones if I need one at all.

Yes, I meant plastic drive plate. It is identical to the hex drive plate, except it is plastic. I can not imagine what it was used for.

Are you sure it's not a plastic spring starter clutch?

I am unfamiliar with the term plastic spring starter clutch, so I wouldn't know. The item I am talking about is identical to the .049 hex drive plate that is common to the drive plate found on the sure start engine, and the latter engines that were designed to not allow the propellor to turn clockwise.

I guess we're going to need a picture Andy, so
we can all say we've never seen one. Wink

Fair enough. I will try to post one. "Try" being the keyword.

I bet you have something that was produced by someone with a 3D printer or was practicing molding parts. I sure wouldn't use it.

Yes, I tried to mount one to an engine, and it split. Unless I am mistaken, it can't be used. It is an excellent copy. If they used a 3D printer, it did a great job.
