Cox Engine of The Month
Pic needed! It's a long shot........

Pic needed! It's a long shot........
I grabbed a NIB Cox Spook engine mount off of the bay. I have been trying to figure out how it would affix to the engine. My guess is it somehow held it into the plastic fuse with actually bolting to the engine.
Probably wasted $10 on the mount! If anyone has a picture of the original mounting I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ron

I don't have a picture but I do remember the mounting method. I believe it was the same as the Stuka, where it was just a bracket molded as part of each half of the plastic fuselage, and the two halves sandwiched together formed an enclosure that trapped the backplate tightly in place. No screws, just plastic.

Mudhen wrote:The Spook came from the factory as a kit airplane. The kit included both a 290-product engine, (with the aluminum carburetor,) and an additional mount for a Tee Dee .049. The fuselage halves were designed to sandwich the engine or the mount in place. The mount you purchased was intended for the Tee Dee.

Darn it!
Oh well, no wonder those things were always on Ebay week after week. Neat bit of history though thank you.

hey Ron, that's a pretty cool part, you should keep it, or i'd trade you a TD Space Hopper Radial mount...also seen on eBay every now and then.

Re: Pic needed! It's a long shot........
I just thought of something....... That mount is supposed to take the place of a postage stamp style backplate, so if that's the case would it be possible to use that mount in any RTF Cox that used a postage stamp? Assuming it clears? Would be pretty interesting to see a Stuka with a TD burning circles.
Still don't want to keep it Mark, I don't do RTF stuff.

I bet it would fit any of those. I only ever had two Stukas, a P-51 and a P-40 with the two piece fuses, and they all had the red PS backplate and it looks like it's shaped just like yours. They were all fine threaded too, 128tpi.

...wow good point, that just may work? Either way the Space Hopper mount is yours and if you want to send the Spook mount i'd love to have it, i don't mind being the keeper of the 'plastic' flame.

Yep the aluminum Spook postage stamp is identical. The reason it's aluminum is to add a little weight to the nose of the Spook to balance it out.

By all means, take it. Fancy box and all. I can't do a thing with it. besides the hopper mounts are equally as cool.

Re: Pic needed! It's a long shot........
ok, that will give me: Spook, Space Hopper (assuming i can find the second pair) and a Thermal Hopper cage mount...wonder what i'm missing?
I'd guess factory .010 & .020 Tee Dee radial mounts would be part of this and/or plastic tank w/ beam mounts?
