Anyone dabbled with air scoops ?
After reading some responses in my thread "time to finish a
Model" it got Me thinking
Has anyone had any luck with air scoops I suppose one
Might say increased air flow causing a rise in crank case pressure which should increase efficiency I'm not talking about forced air ie turbo or a charger working on exhaust gas just a simple scoop obviously the air speed would dictate to a certain degree the fuel air mix ie the faster you go the leaner it makes it due to more air but if set up
Right (richer ) then at full chat should see an improvement in Rpm's trouble is bench testing wouldn't give u a true figure OR mix as that would not be taking into account air speed anyone tried it ??????

Are we talking forced air through an impeller or air being forced in from the prop?

Well, the Tee Dee venturi is pointed into the prop blast. I suppose you could try enlarging the inlet(not necessarily the throat) and pointing it more directly into the wind.
As for a Reedy, it may cause the reed to flutter too much on the upstroke, and either close slowly or not fully seal on the downstroke. Or it might seal okay, as the piston's downstroke supplies quite a push. It may help a non-SPI engine more. It might reduce, neutralize, or replace SPI where employed. One way to find out.

Hey rusty
Yes you have a point didn't look that far into it may be right if the pressure from the downstroke doesn't overpower the pressure from the ram air pipe then all you have is a constantly flooded engine mmm more thinking maybe

Similar on the fuel breather to pressurise
The fuel tank on the Extreme last week.

I my recent reading up on uniflow, I found that's what lots of people do. On profiles, rout the uniflow vent to the inboard side where the airflow is more steady and less turbulent. You could even put an old TD venturi on it as a cool scoop.John Goddard wrote:Although TBH I was contemplating something v

Bangs on door... Hey, Diz, what the hell are you doing in the closet? Is that John in there with you? Aren't you supposed to be trying scoops and ram air? Y'all DO NOT crank that engine in there!

Re: Anyone dabbled with air scoops ?
The funny thing is this I remember as a kid working on a little plane in my bedroom .. As U do having finished about 1am decided it would be a good idea to start her up ( baby bee ) for the first time so there I am 1.30 am tinkering with this little engine then suddenly I get it right with the needling and kaboom a screaching engine a massive grin on my face then it dawns on me the room is starting to fill with smoke well 10 seconds later I was confronted by my grandmother who was definitely not smiling as much as me do you know what time it is before I could answer she smelt the fumes and went ape [bleep] trying desperately to stop the engine before getting a slipper around my backside I just put my hand in it (no spinner) can't remember which was louder her screaching at me or me howling as the prop bit my finger turns out I was so involved building this model I didn't have dinner ( still in the oven cold) and they thought I was over a friends house so hadn't been disturbed since lunch time so 8 hours later after airing the room was warming my dinner set off the smoke alarm again lots of screaching ended with model being thrown out the window probably wasn't a good time to watch it glide into the garden and throw a comment such as "if you can fly it I'll have no problems"

Hey,
maybe primera_p11 can help. He posted a Kyosho Cox Ferarri in my topic.
I think the engine is supercharged by a little e-motor.
