Setting up a poll

Setting up a poll
Is it possible to set up a poll where non-members can partake in voting?
For our next Limited Edition engine we will dummy up 3 or 4 designs and poll potential buyers as to their preferences. Would be nice if the 1,500+ e-magazine subscribers could also vote.

Re: Setting up a poll
I think your best bet would be to send out an email with an enclosed poll. That way, all your customers would have a chance to vote rather than the few hundred on here. (far less are actually active)
Non-members can not currently vote.

Re: Setting up a poll
Yes, that is what I was getting at - get all magazine subscribers to vote.
However, email reply polling might be a bit onerous. I'll have to check if our shopping cart software supports polls or I can find polling shareware that will run on a Linux server.

Re: Setting up a poll
Maybe Jacob can set up a poll that lets guests vote without affecting the other member polls. If he doesn't answer in this thread by tonight, I'll PM him.

Re: Setting up a poll
That would be great as we have dummied up 5 different engines to vote on.
Also, with this newsletter, we will be introducing the Cox forum, potentially 1,500 buyers who are not aware of this forum.

Re: Setting up a poll
I'll see what I can do. How about something like SurveyMonkey? There is also PoLL CODE. If you use a off site poll host, you can post that poll all over the place, in emails, on your site, on here, on other forums in your e-magazine, anywhere and still get the results all in 1. I'll see what I can do with the guest voting on here. Why can't they just join? LOL

Re: Setting up a poll
Thanks for looking into this.
We are trying to encourage people to vote. By forcing them to join first will discourage the vast majority. Personally, if I was asked to vote on something and had to set up an account first, I would take a pass.
However, by formally introducing the forum, don't be surprised if you get well in excess of 100 new registrations.

Re: Setting up a poll
I'm going through the settings right now. Since we won't be doing a Cox Engine of the month poll for at least 2 weeks, it should be fine (I only want members to vote on the engine of the month).
How long are you going to be holding this poll?

Re: Setting up a poll
Okay, Bernie. Guests can now vote. Just let me know when you are done with the poll so I can change the setting back.
Re: Setting up a poll
I would say 6 days after the magazine is published, which I would like to issue on Wednesday, to include Tach Race results. So, I would say next Tuesday to following Tuesday.
I have to take some better pics but here is a quick snapshot of the 5 engines in question.

Re: Setting up a poll
Are we voting on the next limited edition engine?
Well, LOL. Put a red zero drag plate on the red and black engine in the upper right corner and call it the CEF Special LOL. All these limited edition engines you are coming up with is really making it hard to redesign a engine as the CEF Special LOL. So far, I have reverted the colors back to the red and black (almost looks exactly like the one in the upper right corner) and have yet to change anything else. The thrust washer on the engine in the design that I sent you is not a crankshaft spacer, it is a thrust washer (like used on the Venom and Killer Bee).
Also, when you advertise the poll, let people know that they do not have to login to vote. If they are not logged in, a login pop up appears on the screen that can simply be clicked off.

Re: Setting up a poll
The engine we will make will have the round drive-plate. It is just that we don't have all colours in stock.
There will only be one engine chosen, with probably #2 choice kept in mind for the next LE after that.
I expect the results to be in February 13, anodizing completed by February 22 with previous Xtreme and Blue Bullet buyers being able to get first dibs on their previous #'s until February 28 and the engines released to the general public on March 1.

Thanks.
I might put up the poll before the weekend and advertise in this forum and on Facebook, followed by the ad in the magazine next Wednesday.
Since the poll is not tied to membership, do you still have IP recognition software running that would preclude multiple votes from the same Internet connection?

I would need to check on that, maybe even test it.
Re: Setting up a poll
I'm sure almost everyone is honest but all it takes is one turkey to hit the vote button 200 time because he/she wants that particular engine built lol.
Re: Setting up a poll
Okay, as you may have seen I ran a test of my own as it didn't exactly say if it was IP protected or not. It seems to be IP protected ALTHOUGH if a member were to logout, they could vote again. Same goes if someone were to create an account and login, they would be able to vote again. I'll see if there is anything else that I can do or set up with it. Also, create the poll in the General Questions (Guest Posting Allowed) section as all the set permissions allow it to be done already.
Re: Setting up a poll
I did not check or see anything but you mention "logout". Guests would not be logged in, hence cannot log out.
I'll run some tests later today.

If someone is already a member, they can vote and then logout and vote again as a guest. Same goes if someone were to vote as a guest and then join and vote again once they are a member. LOL, why are we talking about this, giving people ideas LOL
Re: Setting up a poll
That's only 2 votes each and I'm not concerned about that. It's the 100 per person....
