Re: Electric Flight
Then I would highly suggest the HobbyZone SuperCub LP
http://www.hobbyzonerc.com/Products/Beginner-Airplanes.aspx#sCub
I've flown both the stock 3-Channel and my modified $uperCub... Still my plane of choice just to burn up the sky.

Re: Electric Flight
....I didn’t know you were looking for suggestions, lol….but since you are, here's my if you’re looking for a smaller, outdoor flyer (not quite small backyard) that has a pretty wide speed range and is very aerobatic or relaxing, you gotta look at the CHAMP!

Re: Electric Flight
We have one of those Spitfires at our club. It looks like a bit of a handful to fly.
I need to get on our little foamy trainer again. I'd like to be able to fly my 1/2A Kadet when I get it built.

Re: Electric Flight
After extemely careful consideration, a great deal of thought, strategic decision making, a review of all those gratefully received suggestions; I nipped out to the shop from work this afternoon and by the time I had got there - all I could remember was "Something with Cub in it". So I got this.
Thunder Tiger Micro J3 Cub 2.4Ghz Combo Yellow
Micro sized and packed full of technology, the Skyzone range of Micro 2.4GHz aircraft from Thunder Tiger are perfect for the beginner and expert alike.
Specifications
•Wing Span: 530mm
•Length: 304mm
•Wing Area: 61sq.in
•Weight: 42g
•Prop: 4.5 x 3
Features
•Ready To Fly
•Magnetic Wing Retainer
•All in One RX Board
•LiPo Battery Included
•2.4GHz ransmitter with Charging Jack
I was heavily influenced by the fact that :-
1. It is bright yellow, so it will be easy to see on our gloomy days and will stand out in the mud and snow.
2. It was cheap.
3. It was the only one they had.
4. Oh. And did I mention that it had "cub" in the name?

Re: Electric Flight
Gotta love those rules in Richmond Park
A lot of 'joined up' thinking went on there....
Somehow you're allowed to fly 200 feet above the 400ft limit in the Air Navigation Order.
That'd take you less than a thousand below the Heathrow flight path.

How dangerous are LiPo batteries?

After reading some articles on LiPo batteries, I am not sure that I would want a lot in close proximity!
Has anyone on the site had any bad experences with them?

Re: Electric Flight
I have quite a few. I've had only 2 issues, one was my fault. The one that was my fault, I accidentally plugged the battery in backwards and it got hot quick. The other the lipo went south on the charger and got puffy and hot... I caught it before it caught fire.
Honestly Lipos are the way to go, just have to have your precautions.

Re: Electric Flight
I have had quite a few puff up, but never explode. I charged one at 3.5C which was supposed to charged at 1C. It puffed after a couple cycles. I keep them in metal containers.
