You're correct. His appear to be silver. I think he anodizes them once in a while.

Medallion 09 drive plates are not anodized. They are however the same as the TD drive plates.

Re: Tee Dee .09 gold prop drive plate
Yes, the driveplates we have will fit both Tee Dee and Medallion. The original color for the Medallion is a plain aluminum (silver color) finish.
The Tee Dee engines used the same driveplate, except it was anodized in the gold color. Many of the later Tee Dee 09 engines did not have the gold anodized finish since Cox/Estes did no longer care about the color when assembling engines.

Re: Tee Dee .09 gold prop drive plate
I have been thinking about it, but the older aluminum tends to get more of a flat finish when doing them in gold.
Perhaps I will do a few and see what the results are.

Ummm, I think so, but not sure. But I do believe Leroy Cox's company always stamped the date of manufacture somewhere in the box.MikeM wrote:so did Estes make and sell the engines and package them in the Red and Black box?

Yes, a lot of them used that packaging until they switched to the plastic packs around 2000.
