I like the MA props too. That's my go-to brand.

Re: Lil' Satan build.
Good idea on the black cox props. Cut one down to 5 probably won't get to try it until Thursday.

Inverted flight is getting better but need to work on camera angle and landings.

Re: Lil' Satan build.
Wow, JP that's a fast little plane, looks pretty stable from what I could see in flat flight, that's great. Good job on the engine too. You got some nice figure 8s in. It didn't look like you had to back peddle a bit, nice and tight on the lines. It probably needles easier on a short prop, but with a longer one the loop area is smaller and slower. If that was with the short lines, some 40' ones will make you look like an old pro, and do wonders for your reflexes and confidence.
You could put inverted flight on hold and just practice loops and 8s. Careful on those outside loops, start high. I think you're getting pretty good. Maybe just trying too much too soon. The field looks nice and soft, that's nice. Keep at it.
Thanks for the video. I set my camera about 60 feet from the outside of the circle with my spot marker right in the bottom middle of the screen.

Cool video,
Looks like your well on the way! I hope to try some figure 8's real soon myself. You really stuck the landing!
Thanks JP,
Ron

Going to switch to a high comp head and 42" lines tommorow & see what happens.

Re: Lil' Satan build.
Figure 8s are easier and safer than loops,if your plane can keep the lines half way tight. I usually have to step back after the first couple in a set, but just get back to your spot marker as soon as you go around on the next lap. JP's engine and plane together keep them tight. It appears to be a well built model.cribbs74 wrote:Cool video,

Re: Lil' Satan build.
Okay here's forty foot lines and a high compression head. Those longer lines are nice, you dont spin as fast.

Re: Lil' Satan build.
The down side of longer lines is that they create more air resistance when in flight.
Every CL plane has a "sweet spot" when it comes to line length. This is best determined by experimentation.

Re: Lil' Satan build.
It's stiil keeping the lines tight, so 40' looks like the ticket. Looks like you have mastered the 8s. Next time try something like a half circle inverted, then flip over and go back and forth repeatedly doing that. It'll be the same control motions as an 8, just sort of flat 8s while your muscle memory gets used to it. You'll get it. The Satan might be concussed but everyone has to learn on something.JPvelo wrote:Okay here's forty foot lines and a high compression head. Those longer lines are nice, you dont spin as fast.

And the Jr. will be a lot easier to fly, so by then you'll be in good shape. You're looking good now.JPvelo wrote:I built the little Satan specifically for it's ability to take a beating before I build my Jr. Satan.
What's your modeling background, are you an RC flyer from way back, and recently converted to CL?

I've built a few peanut scale rubber powered models in the past, alot of fun if you haven't tried it. Had a lil' wizard and a lil' Satan about twentyfive years ago but never progressed past a loop. Got bit by the cox bug hard about a year ago when I introduced my 13 year old son to control line and we've been having a blast. I have a rc q-tee (http://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=1350) sitting in my closet that I built about six months ago and flew once. The nice thing about control line is that I have a great flying site about five minutes from my house. It's also much less expensive than rc.

Re: Lil' Satan build.
Starting to get a feel for inverted flight. Only problem is I was so conscious of the inverted control reversal that I stuck it in the dirt during regular flight when I gave down instead of up! Feel free to skip the first 1:28 of this video, just fiddling with starting the motor.

I really need to work on my camera set up/ angle.

JP when you've 'copied' your utube address have a look above where you're typing here and you'll see
some buttons, the first one on the left is a BOLD capital B. count 19 buttons to the right you'll see a
button that looks like a ladder or piece of film. Click on it and Paste your utube addy in the box.
That's how your film will appear nice and neat without the link.
Best

Good flying, JP. The LI'l Satan is serving its purpose well. Those are tough little planes.

Looking good JP! Looks like your Plane is trimmed well, it holds nice and tight throughout your manouvers.

I added washers under the inboard engine mount tabs for a little more side thrust and it really paid off.cribbs74 wrote:Looking good JP! Looks like your Plane is trimmed well, it holds nice and tight throughout your manouvers.

I've done that on all my planes as I have no rudder offset. Didn't have the same effect as on yours. Guess I need to get me a li'l Satan....
