i will immediatly google it and will not associate the word with any immature pronounciation of a certain body part!"
you gotta admit its a very special hobby
You would be surprised how many people actually know about these engines. If they grew up in the pre-90s era, they most likely know about them specially people that were kids in the 60s and 70s. When I go to antique sales and flea markets, and I ask the sellers if they have ever seen or heard of "Cox Engines" they know right what I'm talking about. They will go on about having a little plane or remembering their Cox trike and the silly names like "Babe Bee" and "Golden Bee". I like to talk to the sellers about these things either just in case they happen to have one with them or that will be something to add to their list to bring next time. When I was running an engine in the back yard once a guy who must live down the street walked up to the fence and said that the sound and smell brought him back to his childhood and he knew exactly what was making that noise. These things were popular in the day so much so that just about everyone (who would be old enough) who I ask knows what they are. Unfortunately, most kids today have no idea what they are or don't even care.
Re: Forum Logo?
yup, i've experienced the same. In germany (especially in bavaria because of the alps) a lot of modelers are into rc gliders.
in the 80s, graupner made these gondolas for the black widow, that you could attach to your glider to do a powerded ascent, equivalent to todays electric prop gondolas. but that's about all they know.

Today, kids are distracted by too many X-boxes, on-line games and Wii's. For folks my age, if you wanted to play, you played outside. My inside time was invested in model planes and model trains (LIONEL).
Wilf, your image is a classic marriage of precision engineering and master draftsmanship. The care invested in inking that drawing mirrors the care Roy Cox put into the production of his engines.

Also, pastimes and hobbies, such as aeromodelling, require that the participants THINK, this is becoming a rare commodity today among the younger generation. In the UK at least, a combination of cheap drink and football (Soccer to our US friends) is producing a generation of knuckle-dragging Neanderthals with more tattoos than brain cells, who's idea of a hobby is beating up strangers in the street.

Re: Forum Logo?
i'd say i keep a good mix of sitting if front of the pc and quality outside-time. in germany, most young people more sports and stuff like that than in any other country.
anyway, back to topic.
i think the poll is a good idea, lets do an engine of the month-style contest, and see what you guys can come up!

Re: Forum Logo?
What ever you come up with, count me in for one. It would be neat to strut around in the UK in one. The Cox engine logo looks a great. I'd like it black on white too. I also think the smell of fuel and the odd oil stain would make it authentic.
It would be fun to do a diesel version as well. You could put a red compression head on it.

I suggested this in my original post. Come on , folks, let's see YOUR ideas, or is everyone happy with what we have so far?
I, for one, would be quite happy to shelve my own ideas if someone comes up with the ultimate logo!

The logo on the slightly overdecorated flightbox works for me, it says it all. It should look great blown up on the front of a white tshirt.

Awww SHOOT! I just got the forum listed under https://www.coxengineforum.com just after you printed those out! I'm not sure if the old one will ever go away or not. It may not because I registered through forumotion. I would hope that it doesn't but I know the old address does stay up for awhile because when I changed the address the first time both were available for a week or so. I have a bunch of notepads printed up with the old address so LOL.
Anyway, that looks good!

Re: Forum Logo?
I'm going to be changing a setting that will redirect the old address to the new address in a few minutes so it really doesn't matter. I just can't forget to renew the domain name every year otherwise we are all screwed LOL.
