Cox Engine of The Month
New Engine Service

New Engine Service
We are formally introducing a new engine rebuild service for any Cox engine. I am sure many on this forum would rather tinker and fix up their engines themselves, but after numerous requests from customers the service is now offered!
A two week or less turnaround time is expected. Click for more details:
http://www.exmodelengines.com/product.php?productid=17825&cat=275&page=1
We will also be implementing a engine trade in program where customers can receive cash or credit for various types of engines. More info to come once the details are ironed out.
Regards, Matt

Re: New Engine Service
Good stuff Matt,
I saw that on your site a while back. Does the service entail diagnostics and a final test run? The reason I ask is even though most folks do their own repairs it may be a valuable service when a trouble cannot be diagnosed.
The Engine trade service also sounds very appealing.

Re: New Engine Service
Ron,
I was thinking of including a test run, but it would double the work in some cases since I usually tear down the engine, clean it, then re-assemble oiled. If it was to be run I would have to tear it down again and clean it for castor, then reassemble.
This isn't to say I wouldn't run an engine if somebody had a specific issue pertaining to running, but it wouldn't be the norm for this.

hey, if you do do the engine swap thing, will you take various brands of engines like os, norvel, and ok cub?

It will probably be Cox for the most part. I am planning on them being used engines (for the most part) that a customer would like to trade in for cash or credit. They would then be refurbished as a complete engine or refurbished parts that would be up for sale on our site.
I would consider other brands, but would probably need them to be complete since we do not have many parts for other engines in the event they would need overhaul work.

Re: New Engine Service
Can you give me an estimate?
Just kidding, its not mine (I would really love to find out who actually bought this engine). Sounds like a great service!

Typically I would pay $30 for a Tee Dee 049/051 if it is in good condition and has all parts that are usable. It would be less depending upon condition. More if it was new.
A refurbished one would sell retail for $50-$60 depending upon the condition. More likely it would be $50 unless it was almost new. A new one would retail for $75-whatever depending upon if it had the box, ect.
