Since there was interest in the old Scientific kits, I thought I would post a few more oldies but goodies. I am not going
to build clones of these, there are better Mustang designs available today.

Consolidated P-51A Mustang.
Even though the box shows a Corsair, the kit is a Mustang. Consolidated used the same box for all the kits in this series.

The fuse is 2 pieces, hollowed. The wing is solid balsa, not airfoiled and 9/16” thick. Lots of sanding here! Small even for a 1/2A, it spans 16-1/2”.

Even though not credited on the plan, it was designed by Walt Musciano. This is a page from an old issue of the KAPA Kollector, in an autobiographical article by Walt. I hope the caption is readable in my picture.

Monarch P-51H.
The postwar P-51H is rarely modeled, but this one by Monarch is very good. It has a 20” span, but the fuselage is scale length and width. That makes it larger than the typical hollow log.

The solid balsa wing has a symmetrical airfoil, and is 3/4” thick at the root.

The large cutaway drawing is remarkable. 14 x 22” I may hang a copy in the shop.

The assembly instructions include half size plan views.

This was in the bottom of the box. Mrs. Cope purchased the kit in 1958. Perhaps a gift for Mr. Cope?
$6.96 in 1958 would be $75.81 today

Those are really Nice, Duane. Personally this is the first time I have seen those kits. They would build into very nice finished planes, a bit more work, probably why they went into oblivion.

Back when they were sold, still a good number grew up on farms. What was it? Well over half the US population, wasn't it? They didn't mind the extra work. Many learned to work with their hands.

Those would be a bit heavy, but then, just having something scale like would work as a static display, or mild aerobatics. Many were sport flyers I imagine.

Consolidated made a 1/2A Stuka as well. The .19-.29 version they offered was stunning. It was heavy but it did used molded balsa and solid carved balsa which made it very scale like. Nonetheless, they offered a look no other manufacturer offered. I was always a Consolidated fan. I suppose it was the Paul Del Gatto influence in designs.
