Re: It's nice to have stuff........
Thanks George and Joe. It's bent but not broken. If I rigged up lines it would surely fly. But that wrinkled horizontal stab did me in. Tried everything including ice cubes. I just gave up, started doing more harm than good.
Thinking about decals, they worked on my colorful Cyclone, but this is different. I still like stars and bars but will probably go with these.
The tab on the fin was broken off so Formula 560. Dries clear. Used it on the windshield too. Doesn't craze the clear plastic like red tube Testors does. I lined the groove with formular 560, weighted and will leave overnight. I couldn't come up with a better fix.
Got to thinking about the Cox PT-19 cockpit guys in comparison. Ryans guys look like they are serious, more like motorcycle racers than pilots. Intersting tracking the PT-19's. Some were painted, some left in plastic, some individuals, some one piece tandum. I happen to have all three variations.
If I'm not mistaken, the PT-19 was Cox's best seller, the Ryan one of the least.
Going to take Roberts suggestion and build a wall display for it that will include Kim's handle. Thinking about painting it to match. That paint really lays well without blocking the detail.
Kims thread on his super Ryan ST. Pure gold.

Some Ryan eye candy. I love the thing.

Well, no grief on the decals so I applied them. At least something like the originals.
Kim's Ryan
I have the large Cox side decals coming.
Also made a trailing tail wheel. A button out of Mom's sewing kit, some music wire, a section of bronze bushing, some hardwood, a cut piece of tubing, and CA.
Still debating on the decals. I have Microset decal remover, may take them all off and start over. Might not!

Bob, your decal job looks outstanding!
A little known fact I did not know. The reason why back in the 1930's that the U.S. military painted their aircraft in bright colors, had to do with very easy, ready identification, in case one went down. It was for rescue. It was peacetime and they were more interested in training safety than fighting an enemy. That all changed with the outbreak of WW2 and U.S. entry into it, except for training school aircraft.

Probably why trainers are so popular with modelers.
But, I just watched an episode of "Air Disasters" where a 737 and a Navy F4 Phantom had a mid-air over California. One of the factors was the F4's low visibility due in part to it's light gray color. All lost except for the RIO who ejected safely.
Start of a shadow box for the Ryan. Still needs to be cut to shape. After some thought I painted the handle that Kim sent to me. I can always remove the paint with Easy-Off which works realy well. No more room in the basement, it will hang over the picture in my Den. Has good company, Levents drawings and a piece of fabric from Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Vega.

I like it Bob, The black background was what was in my mind’s eye as well….
I think you did right by matching the handle too….Will go with the display much better…. I wouldn’t fret too much over the wrinkled plastic…. The Smithsonian is full of aircraft that are not quite runway ready but very historically significant
Robert

Simply amazing as usual! I also love the plane and handle on the black background.
I too have seen the same episode as you I believe. However up here the series is called Mayday. Funny little story. A few years ago flying home from Sin City, I was flipping through the channels avaiable on the plane. I saw that Mayday was on, so started watching it as I really like it. The guy sitting next to me, not so much. Didn't say a thing to me. Then the better half piped up and said to me ' are you really watching that now'. My simple reply was yep! I then asked her if she thought the plane was going to spontaneously crash bacause I was watching it. Well, Mr. Queasy next to me turned green when I said that. Lol.
