Re: Logging again
Yes, there is a lot of white space behind the cockpit. The full scale had Betty's name under the cockpit, her scoreboard behind, and the little skunk graphic on the turtledeck. All of which are too small and intricate to attempt reproducing.
I hadn't considered a non scale marking to balance the white. A good idea, though. Thanks.

Re: Logging again
Sometimes, a cleaner simpler approach yet retaining the essence, which was done in this finish is good enough. However, if money is involved and a sale is to be made, the customer is always right.
An interesting solution yet not scale, but done in my cartoonish half-A Gee Bee Z Ringmaster CL out of poster foam board was use of fancy gold lettering from Hobby Lobby.
I show this not to say that you should do this, but rather inspiration possibly for a future need or gap filler.

Thats an absolute "Belter"duaneh wrote:I just finished my replica build. Tried to keep it true to the original kit, the only real changes I made are dihedral in the lower wing, and a more accurate shape for the cowl & wheel pants.
I used a product engine with a horseshoe backplate, and a homemade 1/2 oz. tank built into the fuselage. The cowl, pants, struts, and cabanes are painted. The rest is monokote. I used Betty Skelton's color scheme on top, but whimped out on the bottom. Hers had checkerboards, I just used red wings and white tail. Final weight came out to 6-1/4 oz.
Really nice work and well done.
That was quite some work doing the fuselage.
Really gob smacked
Beautiful little thing.

Little Stinker Flies!
I finally flew the Little Stinker. I tried to fly it last weekend, but discovered I had seriously underestimated the aggravation factor of a tightly cowled, inverted engine. Couldn’t even get it to pop. Back in the shop, I mounted the engine on the test stand, and it ran perfectly. So, I put it back in the airplane, but rotated the cylinder to the upright position, and left the cowl off. Here it is hooked up to the pin stooge.
It started right up, so I was out of excuses. I double checked that I had picked up the handle the right way, and pulled the pin. The Little Stinker charged down the runway, and lifted off smooth as you please. Flew steady, not twitchy at all. When the engine cut, it slowed nicely, and flared for the landing.
All I can show is these stills. I marvel at the video some members take, especially Kim. Unfortunately, it remains outside my wheelhouse. BTW, the photos make the trees look closer than they are, there's lots of room.
After landing, I discovered that the outboard wheel pant and wheel had departed. I found the pant, but not the wheel, so flying was done for the day. Well, not all flying, just the Little Stinker. I try to bring plenty of airplanes.

Man that's Great that it flew as good as it looks were you tring to start the inverted engine upright , alot of people do that cause its easy to flood the other way .. I see you got alot of plank wing jobs there in the hauler .

Little Stinker. Control line sport scale model. Wingspan 16 in, for .039 to .074 engines.
Direct submission to Outerzone.

Attachments are plans, kit box pic, parts tracings, decal sheet (in 2 pieces, it was too long for the scanner), and pic of a completed model. Model is made from the parts tracings, as I didn't want to destroy the original kit. Duane"
