Tee Dee Backplate Stuck
I was given an old TEE DEE and wanted to take it apart and thoroughly clean it. When I looked at the back plate it was "buggered up" and the Cox tool would not securely fit in the two grooves. Any suggestions as to how I can get the backplate off? I tried a small set of pliers but to no avail.
I soaked it in solvent for several hours but still no luck.
If I can get it off, I will look for a new replacement.
Thanks in Advance

Re: Tee Dee Backplate Stuck
Try to put a small icecube into the pit of the backplate while blowing hot air on the crankcase. The different thermal expansion of the backplate and crankcase may help separate the stuck threads.

Heat. Always heat. Balogh gave good advice.
All I can add is since the backplate is already marred by pliers, and previous attempts at removal, is to file the wrench slots to remove the rounded edges to get a better fit for the wrench.

Re: Tee Dee Backplate Stuck
I have been known to stick the crank case in a small vise with rear up. Double up two hack saw blades with kerf nested wrapped with electrical tape to slowly by hand cut new squared cuts 90 degrees from the buggered up slots. Then still in the vise, pass propane torch a few times to make plenty hot then a cox tool to lefty loosy it out....worked every time
