First fawn of the season

First fawn of the season
Walking out to the garage this morning I noticed a deer out by the cabin and thought maybe there was a fawn nearby. Looking closer I saw one, smaller than any fawn I had ever seen, wobbly legs and Mom cleaning it up. Hours and maybe just minutes old. Wasn't long before it was at Mom's soda fountain. With Mom keeping one eye on me and the other on the fawn I sat down on the shed's steps watching them for a good fifteen minutes.
Not my first experience. Years ago I watched a set of fawns grow up in my back yard. The following year they came back, and for three years after that. Each morning around 10 o'clock they would poke their noses in the garage where I was restoring a MG. I was there every morning and so were they. Captured a few pictures the first year when he was a spike-horn.
So, the second year I grabbed a little Flip camera and videotaped them and forgot about it. Found the camera this morning and dumped the images on my computer. Took stills because I can't figure out how to freeze frame and capture the "tape".
Trashy pictures but you get the idea. Maybe someday I will figure out how to capture stills. They were both losing their winter coats. Unusual for twin Bucks and Does to stay together but they did for three years, coming back each year. More like never. Last time I saw him he was a magnificent six point buck down by the pond, I walked down to say hi and he followed me back up to the house hoping I suppose to munch down on some flowers.
Cardinal rule, never interfere, but I did. They both would nuzzle me and I would pet them. No problem.

That is just too neat. I love when these little creatures come for a visit. It is a bonus that you not only have the memories, but pictures to reflect back on too.

Re: First fawn of the season
And those were the best ones. You should see the others.
I have tried Windex but nothing seems to work. It's a mess and I don't care even if I'm a card carrying neat nick. When your near 84 you get that way.
Yeah, my fingers. They lap them. When I learn to capture stills, I will show them doing so. I tried to give them cut up apples but they wouldn't touch them. Just as well. Totally unusual to see brother and sister staying together that long. Sent an email to the West Virginia dept. of wildlife asking about it.
