Jetex engines
We have access to about a dozen brand new Jetex engines in three different sizes. Any market for those?

Re: Jetex engines
Understanding what your offering is most important. First and foremost of importance is that Jet-X and Jetex are not one in the same. Jet-X is a copy and Bob Davis was offering these in the 90's. Is this the stock that you've come across? Jetex also isn't always compatible with itself. You can get hurt if your uncertain. Red Dot Jetex fuel and other Jetex fuels were made for specific Jetex engines. For example, if you put Red Dot fuel in a PSST!!!!.50 engine case, it will melt. The same goes for putting that fuel in a Jet-X engine. I've seen people selling the fuel and the incorrect engines on Ebay. Knowing what your selling is most important as Jet-X wasn't as popular as Jetex. Do you have fuse, screens, gaskets? The gaskets that were used on Jetex and Jet-X and are only good for 3 runs tops in which they need replacing. If you have Jetex 50 stuff and are willing to sell, I'd like to see what your offering as I've been using it heavily over the past year.

Re: Jetex engines
Shall check with the seller.
It's the same chap that sent us like 200 NIB Cox engines (010 to 09), hundreds of balsa kits, oodles and oodles of NIP Cox parts as well as boxes of other brand engines; like Testors, Holland Hornet, McCoy and British and other diesel engines... just a bit overwhelming at the moment lol.
Also got lots of Cox and other brand engines that are without packaging but brand new and have started listing some (in case anyone wants a value-priced new engine):
https://coxengines.ca/49td191020-cox-.049-tee-dee-engine-no-packaging.html 6 Units
https://coxengines.ca/51td191020-cox-.051-tee-dee-engine-no-packaging.html 3 Units

Where did you list the kits? Not seeing it on the online site.

Re: Jetex engines
Have not listed any kits so far. We received somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2,000 items and it will take many months to list all the stuff. Kits are from plastic (static display) to rubber band, to 020 size, to 049 size and bigger. If anyone has requests, just let us know and we can have a look.

Re: Jetex engines
Two engines are Jet-X and the others are Jetex. There are fuses, fuel, etc. The vendor will send some pics.
Re: Jetex engines
Bernie, I'm very interested. I have one Jet-X that melted it's end cap and I would love to replace it. I'm also getting shy of Jetex fuel and accessories. Ken

Re: Jetex engines
That's pretty impressive. That's a fair amount of inventory. I love the Scorpion 600 stuff. Fuel is difficult to find and new engines are not easy to come by. Seeing this stuff, it generally commands a fair amount of money.

Re: Jetex engines
The Jetex stuff is in and we will try to start some eBay auctions next.
No idea what market pricing is but will start all auctions at 98 cents, as usual, but, if any of you wanted to purchase beforehand, please contact Bernie either via our toll-free phone number or email to support@coxengines.com

Re: Jetex engines
OK, its finally time to clear the table of Jetex stuff
The first three pics are of packaged product, easily identifiable. The rest of the pics are for an assortment of:
Wicks/fuses
Screens (what are they called?
Washers (what are they called?)
Fuel
Pile of used engines(?)
Frankly, we have no clue what goes with what and are probably just going to create a few auctions for stuff we believe may go together. However, before we list any of this stuff, the two gents that expressed interest have first dibs. That is:
Ken Kook
and
Erig G (getback?)
If anyone else wants any of this stuff after the two aforementioned persons have picked what they would like, please email to support@coxengines.com As we have not the foggiest idea what a fair selling price would be, we will count on your integrity when making an offer. By the same token, we certainly appreciate input as to what some or all of the items are worth.

If you get a new Jetex, take a picture of it. It will never look as good as it does now.

Re: Jetex engines
Jim,
True!
I lost several of them trying to get everything working at the same time, with very little success! Usual problems were the poor sealing washers leaking, the copper wire in the wick plugging the nozzle, or ignition failure when the wick went out prematurely. A true PITA to use.
But when all the planets aligned and one actually worked as intended they were somewhat exciting.
All I could afford was the Jetex 50, so I can't complain about the larger sizes.
Would however like a new 50 for static display, as a reminder of one of the ways I wasted my youth!

Jetex hacks from 50 years ago
I gave up on those silly wicks and just used the brute force approach:
Heated the whole thing up with a propane torch until it ignited.
Probably worked more reliably than the wick.
I used to attach a 50 to tiny hand launch gliders and that worked reasonably well.
I actually had one "explode" during a crash which was kind of cool (funny actually). More of a "poof" than a bang but an explosion nonetheless.

Re: Jetex engines
The only torch we had was an early gasolene powered hand pumped clunk of a thing that had little or no control of the flame size! A sure way to do myself damage and pain at that preteen age!
Years later, when I had my first small propane torch it crossed my mind that it was what I needed to start my Jetex back then, but here it was decades too late.
My last Jetex 50 was mounted at the end of a wood beam pivoted on a nail on top of a post. I lit the fuse and for once in my life got a good solid ignition first try, and watched in amazement as the thing spun faster and faster soon becoming a blur and was still gaining rpms, when it slipped out of the spring mount and bounced off the ground. I stood there open mouthed as it sailed into the air going psst, psst, psst, psst, and disappeared into the weeds and brush over fifty yards away.
That was my best Jetex flight ever, but I never found the Jetex in the brush.

Re: Jetex engines
I had a model 50 and never had any success with it, nor my brother before me. I still have a tin of fuel pellets, but sold the 50 to someone on here years ago. I wasn't going to take the chance of some bomb-sniffing dog locking down an airport on the other side of the world

Re: Jetex engines
I'm very successful with Jetex. I can have one cleaned and reloaded in 10 minutes. The main thing is scraping and sanding the pellets to generate enough dust to assist in lighting. The other is how the fuse is loaded. Jetex uses a screen and you need to make a bit of a snake like coil under the screen. The screen has a notch in one corner, don't use that but drill a hole in the center and get it as close to the nozzle as possible. Use a seperate piece of fuse from the outside of nozzle insuring that you get it next to the small pigtail of the coil. This will guarantee a 9 out of ten success rate assuming one properly cleaned the orifices correctly. Powermax doesn't use a screen nor does it require two pieces of fuse. It only needs a piece long enough to go into it's fuel pellets which have a hole in the center. Powermax fuel pellets absorb moisture and swell which generally will require them to be sanded down as you don't want them too tight in the casing. I save the dust and pour that into the casing as well as on top of the pellets to insure light off. Colder days may require one to lightly heat the end cap so that the fuse doesn't get quenched where it passes through the nozzle.
It's a bit of a learning curve. The heat is the primary killer of the Jetex as it weakens the springs and destroys the gaskets. Unless you have positive pressure in your end cap, it's not going to work. This means new gaskets and tweaking the springs to insure good fitment which equates to max thrust. Powermax and Jetex are two different fuels and engines. The gaskets from one will fit the other but could result in serious injury. The fuels themselves burn at different rates and temperatures which can blow out the back of the engine or even melt the engine during launch.

Re: Jetex engines
I see all these pictures of Jetex related items but what is the intent? Are you offering it for sale or putting it on Ebay? This post has me confused as I thought Ebay was the direction these items were going.
