Cox Curtis Pusher

Re: Cox Curtis Pusher
Wow Bob,
The Fleamarket person had it priced for thought. They are tough to find, but also with parts missing, I would have passed it also.
Like you, the painted Curtiss Pusher is quite pleasing, yet very fragile.

Thanks Doc, I would like to own one but sellers price them like gold. Were the pilots painted or only offered in mono color?
I thought the peanut gallery would comment on the scratched model with the bladder fed Cox engine. Seems like red meat for the Cox fanatic's here.
Bob

Thanks Jason, checked it out. $325, so the flea market guy is ball-park. But $60 shipping? Pretty light, maybe he would ship in a wooden crate.

Re: Cox Curtis Pusher
Bob, I really love that plane. I had one as a kid but my dad enjoyed it equally. He flew it and I watched. Although, he asked me a few times to give it a try, he said it was a bit herky jerky so use caution. I didn't take his offer as I was probably not skilled enough at the time to recover it in the event of a emergency. He had all of our planes, slot cars, models, etc. in a storage locker. The storage locker was broken into and away went all the fun toys. We had 2 Baja Bugs, he painted one pink for my sister and we had a ball with them. I still have a prop for the Curtis Pusher.
Pusher planes at least for me offer a lot of excitement. It's the unusual that just makes one want to see it fly. My buddy Dan built a large Farman pusher with a LA .46. Snoopy was in the cockpit. I watched the day it went in and it was heartbreaking. Dan machined a special bearing driveline with a rag joint for this plane. The engine was inverted in the very front of the plane and the tank was specially designed with a tunnel in it for the shaft to pass through. The Mustang on the ground was built by my buddy Neil a New York fire fighter who was at 9/11.
This was scary to start and launch. One needed to know the procedure and hand clearances.

Re: Cox Curtis Pusher
Seems like the Cox Pusher would be a handful to fly and start Ken. But nothing like that LA powered finger thumper. I think I would opt for some sort of looped starter with a pulley arrangement.
I think I would prefer this Testors R/C model NIB than the flea market Cox for just a bit more. These are rare and highly collectable. Sold as a companion to Testors R/C Mustang models.
