Crankcase gasket material

Crankcase gasket material
We are looking at perhaps changing supplier for the crankcase gaskets.
Any idea what a good material would be and where to buy it?

Re: Crankcase gasket material
I purchase gaskets from a fellow who laser cuts them. All his material is Fel-Pro gasket material.

I have noticed what looks like polyethylene, as in vapour barrier, being used for a backplate. The ---Bees have a bit more stress than a regular backplate, but it may be worth experimenting with.

Re: Crankcase gasket material
Back in the early 90's, maybe late 80's Cometic was (I thought) a small gasket
company. I believe they were a common vendor for gaskets.
Perhaps plastic, copper, or a composite gasket material (approximately .5mm thick).
The extra thickness would help with vacuum leaks.

Re: Crankcase gasket material
Hey Bernie..are you considering having new old stock gaskets made? Did you get the stamping dies?
Years ago I had several stamping dies of various gaskets on Racing 2 stroke Motorcycle engines... Kawa..125 to 300cc
No "On line" those days and catalog mail order did not have good searching ability
OLD gent at a Napa store listened to my (while smoking at the counter) questioning the clerk about what thickness Fel Pro gasket materiel came in....
Old guy sez...Hey Fred....Do you have any file folders from the Army?...Yes I sez..
He sez wife got any candles?...Yes I sez...
He looked down the counter... and asked...do I frigging need to paint a picture fer ya...?...I sez no Bob I get it
so Waxed file folder card stock works very well and is not too thick or too thin.....jest a memory

Hint ====I did NOT drip wax on the paper....I shaved chips all over the folder and fouled a clothes Iron that was actually pretty easy to clean....initially did both sides...later just one side....no difference...very hot the wax permeated through the folder card stock just fine

Re: Crankcase gasket material
We have been manufacturing gaskets for quite a few years now but don't have a die. A vendor has been laser-cutting them for us but the quality has been going downhill lately (laser-jitter), so we are looking for a new vendor.
A company ran some samples this morning on a flashcutter and they look really nice. Should have the samples here in about a week or so.

Whoops, missed your sign on date.
Don't wait so long for your next post, many of us may not be around in another six years.
Yeah, I agree. Summers I'm pretty quiet around here myself.

At one manufacture, we used an annual vendor directory printed each year
by Design News. But just like the internet, it didn't provide a quick answer,
just lots of possibilities.
