Re: Chopping up balsa again
Wow! You guys don't mess around --- that was a quick build. It's looking great - good luck on the maiden.
Re: Chopping up balsa again
That would have taken me at least 6 weeks of late nights. It's a beauty, can't wait for some video footage.

Re: Chopping up balsa again
its far from done, the tailfeathers need to be glued down, windows installed trim and adjustments, etc., probably another two evenings.
It does go fast with two people working, Jr. cut all the decals from a trim sheet and did the monokote covering.yep, trexlers would look cool! We did make a pair of skis for it, but the landing gear is too short for them.

Hey Mark you could make skis that sort of strap over the wheels on it already that way prop clearance would not be a problem.
I PMd you.....
Re: Chopping up balsa again
It looks really good! Good luck on finishing it up and on the maiden. Hopefully you "set the hook" and get a flying buddy for life.
Enjoy,
Bob

DONE!
CG is right on money, control throw look about right, weather for Sunday looks good, I think we'll test fly it on the football practice field 1/2 mile from house (see the pattern here: Football, model airplanes) will also take the Champ to practice with.

Re: Chopping up balsa again
yea, geez, we went out in front of the house tonight to maybe do some taxiing(?) around the culdesac and i had to keep from wanting to crack open the throttle!
I do believe 20 to 30 percent of model airplane accidents are due to: "WATCH THIS!"

It flew pretty decent, maybe a little faster what I thought it would, was kind of hard to trim, definitely not a windy weather flyer. Ran out of battery and jr. popped it in, I was too busy messing with camera to help. The impact slightly loosened up the firewall, which was good as it needs more down thrust to minimize typical tendency of flat bottom wings to balloon into wind or open throttle, over all we're pretty happy with it. On way home we stopped at the disc golf course (1/4 mile away) and played a quick 9, I actually beat him! Great day!

Re: Chopping up balsa again
I planned to fly the Champ yeasterday morning for a little practice before the maiden flight, as i hadn't flown since last summer, but the batteries weren't charged.
p.s. last night i removed the small white plastic female connection from the charger unit that comes with parkzone flyers and made an adapter for a one cell lipo charger, now I know if they're charged.
