Custom 1963 Cox PT-19 and HELLO!
Hello All! My first post here was about venturi gaskets and that thread helped big time!... I was updating a nos engine for my baby below. I can't write anymore now but really wanted to share this build picture I've been working on for the last few months. And maybe fill in all details later. Not done yet but close and have a custom manual to go with her. Love it when a plan comes together. Best to all, Xeta

Super job! Great attention to detail, like the pilots. Can't wait for the rest of the story!

Re: Custom 1963 Cox PT-19 and HELLO!
Thanks all for your comments! I've really enjoyed this project. I'm 60 and had the yellow fuselage/blue wing plane as a kid. Haven't touched a cox plane or buggy since my teens. Crashed every plane! I often look for some toy from my childhood on ebay and two months or so ago, I had way too much wine! and there was my PT-19 looking way better condition than it actually was. Cracks not mentioned and engine seized. Got a partial refund and thought maybe I'd re-sell it after a good cleaning, cause I couldn't believe the next day I'd actually bought it. It did clean up some, and I was able to dremel out one crack from the front, but couldn't get the gas stains out as well as hoped. Somehow I ended up searching PT-19 images online and saw a picture of the silver snub nosed PT-23. What a gorgeous plane! That's what I would do! Make my own PT-19/23 crossover LOL.
What's funny is an old picture of me holding my plane shows I painted the black on the fuselage and stripes on the wings- and removed the pilots! And I don't remember doing that!
Two days ago I started the new Babe Bee fastened to a wood block in a vice. I was so stressed out. Not sure why really but it was scary in a good way. It was the first time i'd heard that loud whinning noise in person in 48? years. It was awesome! and louder than I remembered.
Sharing some more pics from the journey. Best to all, Xeta

Re: Custom 1963 Cox PT-19 and HELLO!
I'm not sure about the 1st generation Cox PT-19's (like yours with the Babe Bee engine..) but at some point, the engine was fitted with a left-hand starter-spring and 6"D x 2"P left-hand propeller.. which continued until the model went out of production.
I can't imagine that you'll ever want to risk flying that beautiful model.. but in case you ever get the urge.. the L/H propeller torque-rolls the model "outward-circle" which helps increase line-tension in case it suddenly gets breezy. Just an FYI..
Yours is the most beautifully customized/detailed Cox airplane that I've ever seen! The clipped-nose/open engine-bay really shows-off the Babe Bee! However "rough" the model was when you received it.. you certainly made a "diamond" out of it!

Hey roddie
Thank so much! Yeah, I don't see myself flying it. I'd crash it for sure.Maybe I'll get a crappy plane though as I would like to jump back into the world of CL. I didn't know that about the later model PTs. Cool info about these cool 'ships'.

My pleasure! If you're able to build.. check-out the Sig Skyray and Stuntman 23 build-threads here. They're both great-flying little airplanes that can be built in a couple of hours.. and your PT's Babe Bee engine will bolt right-onto the firewalls of either model.

The Confused Mark
We haven't received the full story from Exta, yet. I betting it's the standard blue/yellow model pictured in the beginning of this thread, with his modifications to the color scheme and detailing of the pilots. I'm also guessing he has mad photoshop skills to recreate the cox instructions with the current version of his custom P-19!,
I've had thoughts, ideas or plans to modify one of my pt-19 to hold a TD engine up front ( I think Kim has done that) or make a motor mount like Carl Goldberg did on the Lil Wizard, with rubber bands to hold the engine on, and pop off during landings! I still have the print outs of the coroplast trainer version from Stunt hanger. You built 3 of them, would not be difficult to shave off the nose cheeks and end up with the same look.
Too many engines, too many plans...not enough to time!! Short attention span, Rene.

Re: Custom 1963 Cox PT-19 and HELLO!
Well, I am pretty good at using GIMP the free version of a photoshop clone. I used to work in Advertising and custom fabrication/sculpting back in the 80s/90s. I have to say though, I re-typed that entire manual word by word and I am not a typist! But I had a vision. I was on a mission from, God! LOL Changed a couple of words here and there to fit the plane , and the pictures of course. Picked up the finished manual today from staples and it looks great. I am so happy! In the image above I forgot to add the roll bar so went back and did that. Glued the seam and it's like a new manual! It is a new manual. Funny how this stuff can give so much joy. like a little kid with a plane
P.S. ehh I'll probably try and sell it for far more than it's worth. But I want you to know that's not how it started. I got drunk and missed my plane. Got the idea to fix her up and grabbed the dremel. As the project went on it became a happy
'job' cause if I kept her, she'd only get dusty and I'd break her at some point and would have to by more wine for my depression... so don't hate me?

I think you've done a fantastic job creating a "One of a kind" Cox model.

One last picture if I may. Full side view. Thanks everyone for your comments. Really means a lot!
Looked at some of the Guillows P-40 builds here. I have an unbuilt one I bought many years ago. Very tempted to open the box and take a look. Thank you coxengineforum for allowing me to share this project. Over and out, Xeta

Yes, I love those pictures. The silver trainer is great, spectacular even but the standard yellow/blue really stands out. All settings are beautiful but the one lost in the clouds is a favorite.
A++++ for settings and photography.
