When is the official PT-19 fly a thon?
Second day of Summer......I've missed SMALL, SIG ( although it felt like I was there, thanks to Kim! ) and a couple of other FLy Ins here locally.
I just scored a small stash of engines and PT-19 parts.
I feel like Roddie, come heck, high water, or falling trees I'm gonna get a plane in the air by the 4th of July........even if it just a Flyin Rag!!
PS: any ideas on how to remove the warp in that yellow wing? Hair dryer heat?

Hey, I'm up for whenever someone says it is !!!
Heat might work with your PT wing. I was able to relieve a warp in my Rivets wing by pressing it into 'about the right shape' with some weights and catalogs and leaving it to cure in my summertime shop!

Re: When is the official PT-19 fly a thon?
I had an identical warp in my PT 19 wing. It was caused by leaving the plane in the back window of my car at the beach for a week...DUMB!
I chased the warp around with a hair dryer, but never successfully straightened it. I ended up buying a wing on the Bay and giving the old one to another CEF member whom I don't recall.
I think if I had taken the time to make a Buck to force it into shape, I might have had some better success.

Kim's method might be sufficient to get it doneKim wrote:Hey, I'm up for whenever someone says it is !!!

I can have mine ready to fly pretty quickly. I think I'll put a Tee Dee in it this time. This is the one time my son will want to fly. In fact, it's his old plane. But I'll fly it first.
Who was the event director last time? I suppose I can do it. Not much other than advertising and collecting logs, videos and flight reports, is there? How about September or October. Sometime near the Ring-a-thon.

Hey Rene! I'm in your corner man! I don't wanna' wait for an event.. the time is NOW! Somehow I mustered-up the energy to clear-off the work-bench tonight.. and gather some parts to start configuring some reed-valve engines. I have a PT-19 that will get a fresh-engine. I need to think about fuel-delivery. The external fuse-tank has been a problem.. and by design; isn't conducive to flying stunt. The model isn't either... .. but I'm working on that! I think that a balloon-tank may feed the airplane for inverted-flight. We'll see...
In the meantime.. I've got parts to rebuild several "product-engines" that most of my old airframes were built for. Shooting for the July 4th week to fly some of them!

That may be the best thing Kim , in the way most of us dont seem to have the time or are able any more to get out there and do it the way they use to . And still have an official day if wished

Re: When is the official PT-19 fly a thon?
My Balsa PT 19 is still in the Black Hawk box
I have such disappointing memories of my Cox/Testor's/Aurora plastic gifts that I will never own one again
No disrespect for all you guys who play with them
For me I do need a date certain each year for the CEF annual PT 19 Fly-A-Thon
I doubt it ever morphs into the world wide numbers of the Ring Master Fly-A Thon
OTOH CEF has been a force for some great trend setting events
I know that any Cox 1/2a powered PT 19 will be welcome so I just now pulled down the BK kit and separated all the parts
I think traditional Blue fuse and Yellow wings will work...gotta print the white and red rudder detail
