I enjoyed watching that but what year was it produced?
I hadn't realised that there was scale control line.

Absofreakinlutely, it's a very big deal in some areas. We just don't discuss it much around here, nor does my club compete in it. John Brodak is one of the premiere scale builders in the US. The Scale CL crowd is quite an obsessive bunch. The planes are typically heavy and in competition they try to fly scale appearing takeoffs and landings. I've never witnessed a scale contest, so I'm sure there's much more to it than just that.ian1954 wrote:...I hadn't realised that there was scale control line.

Here's some video from a couple years ago. These guys are flying scale at their beautiful circle at Buder Park, near St. Louis, Missouri.
The two examples I got footage of flying are electric, but there were others that were nitro powered. The scale Spacewalker even has scale A-65 Continental engine sound.

Okay, so they do touch and goes in scale too. That's a great flight by Cribbs wringing out the Traveling Engine on his Clown. Thanks, Kim.

Ian,
Here's some great .049 powered scale models from the 2015 Tucson 1cc multi engine scale contest. That reminds Me, I need to start working on my model for this year.

Judging from the styles and the cars ,I would say that was filmed in the early to mid 70's. About the time my combat flying career was winding down! Wouldn't even attempt it now! Probably have a heart attack!

Well I've watched this twice now! (and all the other videos you chaps posted!)
You learn something new every day. Scale control line!
Spitfires, Mosquitos, Hurricanes and Lancasters - something to dream about!
Not having Stunty business to worry about - I could computerise it - have full giro control to keep it level, retracting undercarriage, bomb dropping, machine gun and cannon fire, tension indicators on the lines for the plane to self correct .........................
Have I gone too far?

Judging by the planes, fashion and music I would say late 70's early 80's.
Scale is a great way for an aging modeler to stay active, but it's not just for older folks.
That was my take at the events I have witnessed.

Ian
Some purists in the CL world would call you a heretic, but in the RC world you would be playing catch up
Some of the scale models are so realistic when photographed with the correct perspective you hardly can tell the shot is not the full sized aircraft
There ae a few in my RC club who use electric motors in something like a large scale P51 and have on board sound card that is loud and choreographed to take off, cruise, climb, dive and landing....if you close your eyes you are certain a Merlin powered heavy ship is on final and feathering the prop

Sounds like Ian is about to climb aboard the Scale flying machine ( he's going to need a bigger work shop) It is kind of funny some of the event's that were named for the day there was a lot more competition with the sport/hobby at full speed !! Probably the competitor's came up with them Rod.

The 1cc contest I posted about has been moved to Phoenix this year, Oct 22&23. Get something built and shipped over and I would be happy to proxy fly it for you

Re: Are you wired for Excitement !! (Watch)
Are there any rules or details to follow?
I may not make it this year - too many major projects - but I may make a start! I have quite a few 1cc (061) diesels but not quite so many 061 glow engines but still a selection. Would you have preference for an engine? I have many, many, many, many 049s.
