Cox Engine of The Month
Aldrich VA .049
Aldrich VA .049
This is a VA .049, distributed by George Aldrich in the early 90's. This particular example has not been run since it left the factory in Russia. It has slight cosmetic damage - The color on the piece behind the prop hub is wore off in a couple places, I believe from shipping. Capable of RPM in excess of 27k, with a 5.5x2 prop. Accepts either factory plugs ( seen in pic ) or Cox glow heads. $75 shipped in the conus, paypal please.

Re: Aldrich VA .049
Dang it Bill where were you two years ago?
You keep putting up desirable pieces
Unfortunately I shot my hobby $$$$$$ and now have 21 more engines than I have finished airplanes
For you guys considering playing with goodly sized and stable foam wing or Wakkerman style combat ships
This is a very good buy at $60
A Novel .049 or .061 costs this much and this is a much better horse to make you plenty dizzy

Re: Aldrich VA .049
Bill, do you have the box for this engine? These engines were imported by two individuals. Dan Rutherford ( Dirty Dan) and George Aldrich. The later MK II came from Aldrich and Larry Driskill. These engines came with adjustable timing in which you installed shims to raise or lower the piston height. Aldrich would Loc-tite this after he installed the desired amount of shim height. Do you have additional if any shims? Are you positive this engine was from Alrdrich? Ken

In addition to the shims the pistons were numbered 1-5 depending on the fit. I have one without the box and extra shims. Missing the spinner and exhaust header. The mkII version was supposedly better and didn't have a split crankcase.

Sold To Dane Martin! The motor def. came from Aldrich, I have two pages of notes on it. Also have a venturi insert for Dane. I only have one shim, but there may already be one or more in the motor. They are just thin washers, nothing special.
