Updates:
Today I went flying and the NANO TD .010 hit
35,691rpm / 168.86 kp h / 104.91 mph - per Doppler
I had the existing prop a bit more narrow. Winds 6 to 8 mph. 80 F
Tested the 3x3 cut from the 3.75x3 it had great
thrust but speed was down in the low 90's
Another note the Lil Speedy TD .020 on the 3.75x3
Broke its record too
31,257 rpm per doppler 148.37 km h / 92.19 mph
Have another reading from a pass about 40ft
above me hit 153 km h / 95 mph

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
I keep watching these videos just to remind me of things I can't do. The big one is - I CAN'T FLY A PLANE THAT FAST!!
What receiver are you using? - I have quite a selection of small receivers but they are range limited. The battery pack is not an issue as for models this small - I fly electric and the ESC handles the receiver.
Please don't post a Fleabay link.
Some of the smaller servos I use are very cheap and easily damaged and I have got used to swapping them out at the first sign of trouble. None of them would handle the forces in that plane. So I looked at the link you supplied
$58.50 postage for a $25 servo that only weighs 4.5g? Fleabay are misleading sellers when they try to sell internationally.
I tracked them down in the UK and they are roughly the same price. £16.99 ($24.18) - which, again I find surprising as we get dibbed for 20% VAT!
Is this the same servo?
(sorry to harp on about Fleabay but I used to buy regularly from the USA and now ....... not a chance! Under £35 - I pay no duty on imports. The Fleabay postage puts it well over and so a $25 servo would end up costing me around $112!)

Very Impressive Brad !! as I said before you are a really good pilot your trust yours a lot or both !! I have a Q on the trans /rec. range but will put it out there for others too. Is your Doppler app? on your phone to get the numbers or at home on your computer ? Thanks for the update and you should bee very proud of yourself for achieving what most can't !! Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Thank you Eric and Ian,
The TD .020 has throttle so you can fly around at slower speeds till you get use to tracking the plane around
making it easy to get use to the speed.
I use the carbon gear servos yep.. this RX is in both planes rock solid reception so far.
Hitec HS-40 Economy Nano Servo Micro Airplane, Sailplane, Helicopters
Alternate bit bigger but cost is much cheaper $9.49 on ebay.
SPECIFICATIONS
4.8V 6V
Speed: 0.12 sec/60° 0.10 sec/60°
Output Torque: 0.6kg/cm (8.4oz/in) 0.75kg/cm (10.5oz/in)
Weight: 4.8g (0.17oz)
Size: 0.79 x 0.34 x 0.67" (20 x 8.6 x 17mm)
OrangeRx R410X DSM2 DSMX Compatible 4Ch/6CH PWM/CPPM 2.4Ghz Receiver
Specification:
Channels: 4 PWM (6 CPPM)
Input voltage: 3.7~9.6V
Size: 16x27x10mm
Weight: 2.7g
I use computer software called Wave Scope it does a analysis of the incoming and outgoing
Doppler wave and provides the shift on a graph. Here is a pic of one of the passes. I also
use a phone app to get rpm as a reference to find the best potential pass then check with
the Wave Scope software. Another reference is the Pitch Speed Calculator input the rpm
reading and prop pitch it calculates mph. Getting the top speed is neat to discover the
average speeds of course are lower but for that brief moment as it rips past you unloading
the prop for all its worth with the sound of the engine rpm and is a real treat.

Best Static 32,219 rpm / Best Pass / 40,641 RPM / 110.63 MPH per Doppler
35% Nitro / 76F winds 6 to 8 mph
The rpm is great but the dia. is loosing thrust so next prop to test:

Brad here is a microswitch harness sold on ebay that also includes a battery charge lead:

Just bought a couple of them, they shipped from the UK and are small enough for the nano 010 plane.

I have bought that size before they are way too heavy and big for use with
TD .010 and .020 planes. So far only the 2.6g MPI Micro Switch has been found
to be the smallest and lightest wire gauge. Note in the pic they are in scale
with each other based on the connectors. Your switch will take up too much
precious room inside the fuselage and weigh 10g plus.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
This looks like a good fit so must try the Carbon 3030 on the TD .020
Could hit 38k down wind for 110 mph on Doppler
All around rpm will be fun to hear at a steady 35k
Will still turn briskly and zooming climbs should be good.
E-flite modified to: 3.5 x 3.5 / 1.9g will bust 100 mph for sure.
So far best run:
3.75x3 / 1.3g / 31,257 rpm / 148.37 km h / 92.19 mph
Robust at the hub enough to handle a TD.049

Welp I pulled the trigger on the next generation RC gear for the DART
Local Texas hobby store is mailing me some micro stash.
- Three of the 1.7g digital ultra micro servos (1 spare backup or may add throttle)
- 2g 4ch RX 3.6v to 9v (charged 4.2v nominal 3.7v)
- 2.2g with - 150mah 1S 3.7v lipo vs NANO 80mah Nimh / 10.9g 4.8v
New set up 7.6g / 2ch or 9.3g / 3ch for all the on board RC gear vs old NANO set up 18.9g
Finally gear that can operate on 1S and very small.
NANO vs New DART 10

What materials are you using? I thought this was all wood, so why route the antennas out... save the added drag?

Hi Phil,
I use thin ply and balsa, the antenna wires are set up with one forward one rearward within the fuselage.
Just a gear layout photo to draw the basic side view of the fuselage. 1/32nd sides and 1/64th top and bottom.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
- Remove the cylinder's steel fins and lower skirt, fit an outer aluminum sleeve with fins.
Could keep skirt to allow the cooling shell to be rotated and locked in place with the glow plug.
Would allow aligning a single port exhaust with footing / threaded for 1.5mm bolts to hold a
muffler type or header pipe for goo control. Last rendering more scale. Replace plastic back plate
for an aluminum 3 hole mount. Replace bolt / spinner with a solid threaded spinner nut for less wobble.
With a 2.2 x 3 should get near 50k rpm. / 140 mph with a full wave pipe shown length if at 48-50K with
stock timing which is low but could yield more torque and rpm than open exhaust.
Found some micro switches on ebay around 1g ea. less wires
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261239451325?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
On a side note a Pee Wee will do static 26,300 rpm with a E-flite 3.75x3 / 74.72 mph / 30% nitro.
Bummer they don't come ready to roll with an external tank option. Run time bites for RC even CL
would be limited to just a few sparse mins.

Pee Wee run time
The best I could ever get was about 2 minutes on the standard 2cc Pee Wee tank.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Lol yes that is just rotten run time with heavy 5.7g back plate just horrible.
Options:
tank ring extension or drill a hole for a feeder line for an external tank.
run a larger prop for lower rpm will increase run time
use them for free flight
mod the tank for just the reed valve and stem tap a small nipple in the stem use a remote needle valve.
rob the cylinder, piston. plug and gasket for the TD .020 and throttle rings (is why I have them)
Step 1 dremel away the tank ring;
Step 2 clean up edges with a fine file, remove the small air inlet and fan out for a small venturi for better air intake.
Step 3 can vary I think there is enough wall thickness to drill and tap the stem for a small threaded nipple.
Will post what I decide to do in the end and do a run up vid should make more power! Could just pop on
a RC carb and needle assembly on the back end. Simple aluminum U type bracket for a standoff to mount
the engine to the firewall will do.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Ok that was just too easy..
26.5g with Carbon 3x3 race prop / hex head bolts ready for the engine mount when I have more free time. The coupler is a bit long will trim that down 1/4in shorter remove the gap and trim down the aluminum stem from the reed valve this will cut the whole length in half of what is shown now. Trading off that heavy back plate and lame short running fuel tank was a no brainer for a light weight aluminum RC carb.
Should be a screamer now! Carb is off one of those heavy (43g) G-Mark .03 engines I have a few of them lame rpm and weight also fuel hogs but the micro RC carbs are great is why I collected a few from ebay. Whaaaah Lah a light weight Lil micro RC engine is born.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
So small and light I ended up ordering another RX / Servo set great for the TD .010.
The TD .020 may put too much load on the servos torque abilities. To
get around that new holes drilled closer to the servo hub would increase
torque above spec. Most micro size planes don't need much throw when
set up for speed. If with an electric motor I wouldn't go past 35w for speed use.
Major weight savings and will run on just 1 lipo battery 150 to 180mah will get
you 5 to 6 flights per charge.
For reference the NANO .010 uses HS-35HD Ultra NANO servos.
