Might have a hard time moving it at that price. Prices are soft right now.

The first ones were anodized as Ron stated, and were sold on blister packs starting in '57. I'm not sure when the silver variety appeared. However I do have one with an early knurled head, engraved tank, thin wall cylinder, gooseneck crankcase and silver tone backplate which are all features of the first PW's.
Re: my pee wee 1957 for sale
Hmmm,
Probably need a ruling from Jason or Mark, I am keen to know as I have a very early one with a red tank that was given to me by a guy who bought it new in the 50's.
I have a silver one as well and as far as I know it is a replacement product engine sold for use in the Pitts/Stinker RTF's

-I fired an email out to the great one himself (Mudhen) and hopefully I hear something back. going thru my notes and photos this evening, it looks like the first Pee Wee were anodized, or at least as sold for "hobby" engines.
-No mention of color in two engine test review from '58.
-John Krickle stated red tank for '57.
-I know by late sixties product Pee Wees were not anodized...and I'm gonna guess that by early sixties Cox stopped anodizing product engines??

It looks like your engine is a regular engine from around mid 60-ties or later.

I own 9 Pee Wee's three are the original first run lot silver tanks with the words thimble drome stamped on the tanks.. these three engines have the best fit / matched cylinders pistons and pop over on a flip with fantastic snap.

Can you take a detailed clear picture of your backplate?

There i nothing "different" about the backplate from what can be seen in the pictures.
Another thing to tell the age from is to look at the crankcase behind the prop. Is it straight or curved there?

Re: my pee wee 1957 for sale
According to the Cox Engine Handbook, they didn't start stamping Thimbledrome on the tank until 1959. Additionally, they were producing the red tank sport engines as early as Feb 1957. The earliest I see a screen added to an engine is 1968. You do have an early backplate, but it appears they used those backplates from 1957 - 1968+. Unless there is something unique about the backplate that I cannot see. So based on that I would say that you have a product engine that was made sometime between 1959 and 1968. Andy

Re: my pee wee 1957 for sale
I took some pictures of mine to help show you. No mesh, no "Made in the USA" standard from the factory. Yours would make a pretty runner though if you gave it an overhaul and polished up the externals. If you really want to sell it, come down to $25.00 and start from there.
Re: my pee wee 1957 for sale
I got a reply from Mud and he confirmed that the red anodized Pee Wee .020 were always hobby engines and natural aluminum were always product engines.
Looking at the three blade prop with the wide tips, makes me think the engine might of came off a F-100 Super Sabre, made in the late fifties.

Re: my pee wee 1957 for sale
Hobby/product, what is the difference? Product engines were only installed in products like RTF airplanes and cars? Doesn't compute for .020's.

Yes, Cox (Thimble-Drome) sold the .020 engine by itself as a "hobby" engine, compared to a engine that was installed in a toy a.k.a. a "product" engine.

Thanks Mark, I'm not familar with any .020 product cars/planes but I don't doubt that they exist.
I might just have cracked the Yahoo code to join your site.

One of the great things about this forum is that its members share a lot of information about their engines, how to take care of them, and how to clean them. There are numerous threads that explain in detail how to clean up your engine. Use the search function and you can pull up a wealth of information. Good luck. Andy
