I noticed on a Li'l Satan box it shows a Golden Bee with the cylinder and needle valve pointed outboard, you probably can't fill the tank full
and the fuel pick up would need to be up by the needle valve. Anyone ever try it that way?

I have seen it, never tried it. I have heard fuel tends to pour out the tubes in that configuration. That's a lot of hassle to protect a cheap needle if you ask me.

Yeah I did once, but it didn't work well at all. I had a hard time getting the pickup tube to stay put and it slings fuel. I switched it back to needle on top and cylinder on its side. Just try not to land upside down. I didn't worry much about the needle since I had spares.

You could rotate the tank on the engine, the pickup would be in the right position to just leave without a tube on it, but the tank would always be left with a little fuel in it - you could never run it out.

I find that the cylinder protects the shorter needles pretty good in all but the roughest of crashes. Gently inverted landings fare pretty well, especially if you go hard up right before landing.

I fly over grass that is frequently not so well mowed (I would rather fly than mow...)
