Yet another Lil' Satan build...
Laid up with strep today going to see if I can knock this out. Rustys retried thread has inspired me to take some liberties the design.

Going to start by trading a few ribs for a consistent airfoil to avoid stalling during maneuvers...

Re: Yet another Lil' Satan build...
Here's how I smoothed my airfoil shape:
I added a spar, top and bottom, to hold the shape between the ribs. It's almost on the CG but you could move back some if you wanted to. It does a good job of preventing the dip between the ribs. I just used a square file and made a notch in each rib and pressed in a 3/16"(I think) square balsa dowel. I added a 1/16" balsa brace between the top and bottom spar between each rib.

Don't screw around with that strep. Knock it out hard and make sure you don't get a relapse by pushing too hard too soon. When I was 17 I did exactly what I'm cautioning against. Simple case of strep throat mishandled. Now I've been on kidney dialysis for 27 years because I was too bone headed to take care of myself. I'm a walking talking public service announcement when it comes to strep.JPvelo wrote:Laid up with strep today going to see if I can knock this out. Here's the bones mocked up ready for finishing. 22" wingspan, 9" from firewall to rear of the elevator, just shy of 2 ounces on my el cheapo diet scale.

That was a quick turnaround! Looks like it's going to be a snappy flier.
Is that all scratch? or did you dissassemble your Satan and scavenge?

Re: Yet another Lil' Satan build...
I had another Satan kit but parts fit at the leading edge was crap. Went with the sheeting to fill gaps and add strength and also fill out the airfoil between ribs. Figured the sheeting was strong enough I could lose half of the ribs and make up for the weight of the sheeting. Tips were scratchbuilt and the tail booms were obviously shortened. Hope it will fly snappy enough to turn around and bite it's own tail when I get a fine thread needle for one of my tee dees! Will fly on reed power until then.

Ya' gotta cut the prop down to 4 3/4 and run at least 20% nitro and about 80% bs.RknRusty wrote:Wow, you got that Babe to turn 30 grand. Sounds just like a Cyclon!JPvelo wrote:Do it!!! 80% BS? Where do I find that?
Was that a Li'l Wizard? as in Carl Goldberg?
If so how did you ever get it to stunt like that? Mine is a brick with wings. Even with an RR1 up front it was just a faster brick with wings.

That was a combat wing with a cyclone .15 doing 90mph. Witnessed it firsthand yesterday.cribbs74 wrote:80% BS? Where do I find that?

Re: Yet another Lil' Satan build...
my little wizard is notably nose heavy with a product engine and remote tank. Shorten it up a little and it probably will become significantly more nimble. Put a serious engine on and get the balance right it probably will do more than just wingovers.
Nose heavy I can do lazy loops and inverted... properly balanced? Hmm...

Looking good man!!!
Now fly it and report back. It should be pretty responsive with that short tail. After you feel better that is.........

Parts aren't glued on yet, just mocked up for the pretty photo. Speaking of covering this is the first time I've used ultracote. Love it. Sold. For the first time my wingtips don't look like a shrink wrapped crap.
