Good going, rogermharris. May I suggest instead of pilot holes, perhaps just marking with the laser and letting the individual drill to their liking? Reason why I mention this is then one could adapt to an engine other than the Cox .049 tank or Testors .049 Red Head tank pattern. There's no telling whether someone might try a Sure Start, Testors .049 without tank, OK Cub .049-B, or other beam mount engine with engine mount, etc.

And please regard my comments less seriously, as although your product is high quality, at this point I don't have a need for this item as for now.

no worries sir! it's easy enough to make it both ways. i like the accuracy of pilot holes, especially for a beginner Thumbs Up

#32 or #33 rubber band preferred, those are 3 or 3 1/2 x 1/8, or #64 with care as the wider band can cover the edge of the engine and choke the intake. Those are 3 1/2 x 1/4 and are commonly used for RC airplane wings. Two rubber bands are used, one per pair of ears.

The screws are #3 as called out in the engine paperwork, with #2, #3, and in some cases #4 being acceptable. I normally use #2 as #3 are difficult to obtain locally for me.

The holes look small enough that paint or a drop of epoxy will fill them for re-drilling. Also the extra set of holes for the sure-start and horseshoe backs is missing, but no worries there.

I can make them however they would be most useful. It certainly would not change the cost.  If you would prefer I can  add markings for other mounts. what length screw 3/8"?
Here is one with marks only

Awesome work!  I'd buy a couple for projects.  I like the ones without the holes, just marked.  But even with the holes, I could fill them with a dot of glue and drill for other patterns as needed.  Or, maybe a compromise.  Put holes in the smaller plate the engine faces, and no holes in the plate with the ears that rubber bands to the firewall plate.  But, as you say, holes would work good for a beginner building their first planes.  Make them however you wish, and they'll be used to anyone's best advantage.

And for rubber bands, I'd definitely use #32 bands. A big bag is not too expensive at Office Depot or the like.

Don't mean to be pushy, just offering up suggestions.

i don't mind the suggestions at all. i will do this and basically give them away. i'm not looking to get rich, just want to help preserve this hobby. since i am just getting back into it after 35 years or so it pains me to have to order pretty much everything and to have to purchase something like this and $10 shipping is outrageous! i'll put them in a standard envelope and put a stamp on it. the biggest expense is the stamp!

anyway... i can figure that out later.. it will cost me about 20 cents to make

Wow, nice looking Red & White Lil' Wizard! How'd you get the mirror-like tank? Polish or production?

Roger does fine work!
Nice high grade 3 ply, looks just like on my original. His parts will be perfectly interchangeable with the original Goldberg mount. Very nice.

wizard - Scans of my Lil Wizard rubber band engine mount - Page 2 Empty laser Lil Wizarde Motor Mount

Post  fargophil Sat Jul 25, 2020 10:14 am

I arrived at this discussion thru a Google search and while I realize I am a little late, a few years, I am really interested in making a rubber band motor mount for my new Lil Wizard. I have tried to get in contact with rogerharris who apparently made the laser mount that was pictured a few times but he never responded. maybe he changed his email or doesn't follow this forum. Any way I have downloaded the pictures he provided and the other set with the dimensions for the mount but being less of a craftsman as I would like I would really like a scan of the parts for the motor mount that can be printed full size and used as a pattern. My printer and software uner Widows 10 doesn't allow for a print actual size option. It ay be as simple as using a different software but what ever it is that is my goal. A set of patterns for the rubber mount that can be easily printed actual size. any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a Lil Wizard?

If you do, all you need to do is trace the nose on plywood or whatever material you wish to use and cut it out.

I believe it is there but it is buried under one of the settings under options in a very cryptic manner. Werd

Hijacked (Yes, I have been through this same maze, don't know why MS need to make things so cryptic that only a professional graphic artist would understand. Also don't understand why MS took an easy to use software interface and made it worse in all their application software.) Am away from a Windows system now (use Linux Ubuntu on my home systems - much more user friendly and logical), so can't advise.

Back To Topic May be someone else here who is not an Android, Apple or Linux / Unix user can help.

Hi fargophil, I don't have Windows 10, so I can't help about this. But you can draw it in a different way. Download attached image. Open it with Windows picture viewer. Zoom in or zoom out the attached image. Measure the size with a ruler on computer screen. After you get the correct size then place a paper on screen. Trace the image with a very soft pencil lightly. Do not press pencil tip on screen. I draw several images in this way.

Thanks for the help, especially on such and old thread. Didn't mention it in the first ppst but to make thing even n\more difficult I have the graphics on my computer set to about 200% normal for vision reasons so getting the image full screen and tracing doesn't work. I think the best solution of the suggestions is the digging into window to find the answer., If I remember correctly my old computer which was on Window 7 had that ability. May be easier to dig it down off the shelf, set it up and print it from there. An in answer to anther question, no I don't have a wizard, I am trying to build one without paying the $45 from Brodak plus whatever outlandish shipping charge they would want.

Depending on your printer driver, there is a "scale to fit" option. Try to deselect this, by unticking box.
