Functional Nylint?

Functional Nylint?
Were any of the Nylint cars functional?
I have a blue one that appears to be with the exception of a fuel line. Gears appear to be steel, engine pops with compression, seem real to me. Really good replica if not.

The engine is not plastic, it has a functioning piston.

How to post photo link I think there is a member post count and time factor, I can't remember.
You have to upload to photo host then cut and paste.

Re: Functional Nylint?
Lumporie you have hooked up with the most knowledgable person on the forum for gas powered model cars. Crankbndr is the authority.
I'm not sure how you came up with Nylint, but it sounds like you hit the jackpot. I think it's five days before you can post pictures. Do you do model planes/trains also?

Re: Functional Nylint?
I have been into tether cars for 15-20 years, have a modest collection and wasn't comfortable with a replica. i got it cheap at a flea market and couldn't figure out if it was functional or not. Engine seemed real along with drive train. Came in a Nylint box so that's what I thought I had.
I'll post some pictures of my collection when I'm able to.
Glad I hooked up with the right guy, Thanks!

Re: Functional Nylint?
I have a few of these Nylint cars. They all have fake cast metal engines. The Blue McCoy one has gears you can hear spinning inside, where the Thimble Drome Champion cars don't. If the engine is real with compression, then someone must've put that engine in it after it was sold by Nylint.

Re: Functional Nylint?
It looks new, you say it pops with compression. Get some fuel line, some glow fuel and a power sourse - 1 1/2V battery eg. If your unfamiliar with glow engines there is a lot of information on the net.

Re: Functional Nylint?
Looks like someone tried to make it functional. The gears are real and the wheels are vintage like tether car wheels.
These parts were available until recently, now not so much. The engine looks real, the hardest engine part to find would be the parts
that convert it from air to tether. It just bolts to the engine case. Most of the info web sites are gone now also.
Here is another that was converted
