Feelings of Abandonment
For the RM Fly-A-Thon I decided to build a new plane, and was ready for the Fly-A-Thon last weekend with five planes. I sent out a mass text to everyone in the club reminding them about the F-A-T, but only one person showed up, and his plane had a busted tail so he wasn’t in flying condition. So we agreed to come back on Sunday and do our flights. I sent out another mass text and made sure to point out that if someone didn’t have a Ringmaster, I would have five to fly. Well, Sunday morning the other person from Saturday texted me that he was sick and wouldn’t be there. So I showed up at the field on Sunday and waited for two hours, but no one showed up.
I again texted everyone that this weekend is the make-up weekend for the F-A-T, and I got a couple of responses. But Saturday came, I went to the field, but no one showed up. Major feelings of abandonment.
Today was the normal monthly meeting day, but only two people showed up with RM’s other than me, and it was too windy to fly. *SIGH*
Here is the fleet that I brought. The biggun is a PDK Ringmaster Jr. Trainer that I just finished. The small one is my .020 RM. The slab wing .049 Beginner’s RM in the front is my THT Beginner’s RM. The White and sky blue plane is my Willie Nillies BRM. The BRM with the dark blue tips is the first plane I built when I got back into control line flying back in 2013.

Too bad Mark, must be very frustrating to see the passive stance of others, when you are enthusiastically organizing an event...
Your fleet is beautiful, I would hesitate to lend them to that non-responsive crowd showing very limited interest to participate...how responsively would they handle a borrowed plane?

Re: Feelings of Abandonment
Well bummer, Mark. If only I lived nearby.
Although, I would probably be no fun considering I don't fly models.
Hopefully it's just a short temporary bout of late/end of season burnout.

That's too bad dude. You'd think that maybe a few people would have at least replied your text saying that they couldn't make it.. but "good luck"..... "tight lines"..... or something to that effect.
That's a nice fleet you've got there Mark!

Hey Mark @batjac, Im glad you have posted what has happened to you and got it out off off your chest rather than just internalising. You have a great fleet of planes and I know from other threads and videos from the forum you are a very active member at flying events etc. I enjoy your threads and videos/photos you post. Were I over there I would be keen to fly with you

Re: Feelings of Abandonment
Hi getback,
Nice Ringmasters ! (as an avid Flight Streak fan, I still like them to look at)
Do not take it personally.
Pandemic/new Drone rules have decimated 10 out of 10 of my flying buddies. They have gone on to other hobbies.
I have been enjoying 250g electric local park flying.
But, it is not the same as flying with my friends.
I am going to ignore the 250g limit and fly safely in the parks/schools around here.
If the cops pull me over, I'll say, it is under 2500g, like the rules say...
It is a 3hr round trip to have fun running 2strokes, + $50/gal for 15% does not work for me. Never mind replacing busted props.
I will enjoy meeting early morning dog walkers who's dogs see my plane. I fly low as the dog is unleashed. It is very funny. Jack Russel Terriers can jump very high, and can outlast any battery I have !
Back home within an hour.
That is all I can do.
Right now.
Mum is in Hospital, and every prayers her way will help. Thanks.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S On a humour note: Has anyone considered a Flight Streak athon?
P.P.S. Thanks, CEF Forum.

Hello Dave,
I remember your intro story on CEF where you said that back in the day as a schoolboy you had been an adamant COX plane flyer and tester and got paid money from COX distributors for flying the heck out of COX control line planes in front of the public, as a live advertisment...so you took part of spreading the COX hobby epidemic , and the COX hobby must have wedged itself deep in your heart.
No offense meant to electric flyers, but with such background of yours I cannot see you coming home with no castor smear on your hands and on your planes!!! Come on!!!
Given my challenges and dire straits in our overhyped drone law environment, putting the weight limit not to 250 but to 125 grams for all UAV-s to be registered etc., and living in a small country with flying field constraints and hiatus, I have also gone my way in finding the green spot outside town where only dog walkers may complain when I fly my COX RC birds (as an outlaw until recently, but I finally got my documents as a legit flyer, - except case-by-case airspace use permits to be applied for - in order) ....I encourage you not to stop fiddling with COX engines, otherwise you will walk the way as is in my motto below my posts
Keep flying those COX planes and engines!! Come on!!!
How about telling the police when they get you flying planes over 250 grams in weight, that "hey, officer, the plane actually has no weight whatsoever, as you can also see with your eyes, it stays in the air without dropping to the ground !!!" or similar?
