An observation if I may:
I note that the two Cox wrenches shown are of authentic Cox production an not "knock offs" and that's a good thing IMO.

Fred:
Using TWO wrenches together helps prevent cylinder head damage due to wrench slippage

SD I agree with your note.
Fortunately I have a son in law who teaches machine shop.
I usually take the tools like this, make notes on how I would improve it (or not), and have them reproduced in harder steel (or aluminum) slightly thicker (or thinner) etc.. These are special projects for me and I never ask him to produce any quantity for selling
Bottom line is, yes a paired set of good wrenches certainly makes maintenance much easier

Fred:
You'll note "dimples" on OEM Cox wrenches. They align to help hold the wrenches together when in use.
If you were to make a copy I'd make it of thicker stock than "knock offs" currently available. It would eliminate the need for a second wrench.
The wrenches currently being sold are of thinner stock than the OEM's of old hence two wrenches are advised. My personal wrenches are of older Cox manufacture and are therefore thicker (and not as sharp-edged).

Dude:
Anywhere the are sold nowadays. The old style has been out of production for many years and unavailable world-wide.
IMO, the best ones are the original black wrenches stamped "Cox" and part number with "dimples". (check the picture of one on this thread abvove)

Here:

And they are not bootlegged
And not made in China
But they are made from Stainless Steel, don't rust and are super-solid

As far as improvements are concerned. Longer handles for better leverage would be a nice mod.

Tell me about it
Because we take apart 1,000's of engines each year, we had a couple of specialty wrenches made. Cost over $300 but they work.
We just wanted to clone OEM Cox wrenches as that is what buyers were used to seeing with Cox but, yeah, I'm with ya!
Re: For Sale Cox .09 wrench
Agreed, you need two but not for SD's purpose of stacking two together for extra thickness, but to use one for holding the cylinder and the other to back off the headfredvon4 wrote:SD I agree with your note.

The new wrenches work but they could use a trip through a tumbler to knock the sharp edges off.
