The tail booms would have to be extended to act more like vertical stabs. The wing is thick and wide, so plenty of room for a couple of small servos. Prob ailerons elevator kind of setup.....
Just a thought but it may be possible.
It probably would be possible, you can fly a housebrick given enough power, but my question, which always occurs to me when this sort of idea is mooted, is why? There are THOUSANDS of designs for R/C, why try to use a model designed for C/L?

Wilf,
Rest assured I will build the CL version with all the original parts. I have enough extra parts to make another along with some new Balsa. Why you ask? Well I am sure you can appreciate how good the model looks right? Everybody has an ARF something or other or some kind of massed produced model. Who has a Jr. Satan RC? I imagine not many.
I like to be different and I like the way the model looks, I also like being creative.
I am just toying with the idea and I am going to build the CL version like the design was made for first.
After that though........

And an .020...
Jr. Satan Matt........Not L'il Satan. The .020 wouldn't even get it off the ground. It's a .15 sized CL. Altough for RC the .15 may be pushing it.

Re: New buy Jr. Satan (new development)
For a period of time in the late 70's (I think) there was a brief surge in converting CL combat planes to R/C. Terry Prather, the designer of the "Winder" combat ship (kitted by Sterling), ran an article about converting it to R/C. I think he powered it with a .19 (originally .35-.40 powered). I've got the article somewhere, and will post it if I find it (just for the heck of it!)
Just imagine that this sucker would be almost impossible to see at any distance if it turned edge-on !

Thanks! Still haven't test flown it for lack of a launcher. Think I scared Rory away when I suggested he wear an athletic cup when he chucked it !!! His wife is wanting a kid, and I SURE don't need THAT guilt trip on my conscience !

Cool Kim!
Yeah man, if you can dig up the article sometime that would be great. No hurry though.
Like I said earlier, I plan on building one with original kit pieces first as a CL and then with spare parts and Balsa an RC one.
That way Wilf won't fly over here and kick me a new one.......

Wonder why they did doubles? Maybe they figured you would end up wrecking them pretty quick! Thanks for your help!
It wasn't very common to come home from a meet with an intact airplane. If you did, it usually meant either you came in first or had engine problems. It was a given that there would be at least one t-bone straight overhead in every contest, with the engine in the plane that got hit likely still running and pieces of balsa and tissue raining down. That is why they started requiring leashes that tied the engine to the bellcrank and therefore the lines.
I think a single Voodoo was $3.95 and a double $5.95, so there was significant savings.
I was going to put a TD .15 on my Jr. Satan build but scored a Conquest .15 (which would have come out a bit after my time flying combat) that I think I may use instead. Should be pretty hot! I used a Supre Tigre .15 back then... Similar performance ( but I think about an ounce or more lighter - maybe close to two). I have one of those too... So.. I'll have to see.

CZ,
I am not sure which engine to install right now. I am thinking .09 so it flies slow enough for me to control it. After that my Special .15!

Re: New buy Jr. Satan (new development)
I was thinking along the same path - starting with a TD 09. Maybe 45' lines instead of 52'. Especially if you build it light. What are you going to cover it with? I'm thinking pure old school - silkspan and clear dope. It might me heavier then shrink film, but I bet it is a stronger airframe.cribbs74 wrote:CZ,
