Strange starting technique

Strange starting technique
Watch carefully how he starts this engine........................
He spins it with the starter to get the fuel through
Puts it against compression.
Then he leans down and turns on the glow plug.
Motor starts!
I have NEVER seen this done before, wouldn't have thought it was possible!

I have had them kick while sitting with the glow on. But never actually start. That engine sounds evil!

Wow!
If you have never had the chance to attend a pylon event and one is held within reasonable distance, then you should go at least one time. The planes, speeds and engines are all incredible. The two primary classes flown in the US are Q500 and Q40; the Q40 is the higher end of the two. Both use .40 cid engines. The Q500 engines turn in the 19000+ range and the Q40 engines will run 25000+.
Because starting order in the Q40 is determined by presentation points, the quality of the planes and finishes is outstanding. Due to the speeds these planes fly, mid-airs many times cause the planes literally to explode into confetti.
Re: Strange starting technique
By the sound you would think they were turning quicker than 20k, still though very impressive. I would love to watch an event. Balsa confetti Lol.......

Re: Strange starting technique
Yeah, if you ever get the chance, go to a pylon race.
It's pretty impressive flying skills and aircraft.

Had to watch 3 times before I got it, he leans down and off camera
turns on glow.
Happened to me but only once ever by accident engine started as I put
glow clip on. Careful now!
Have seen pylon racing at UK nationals splendid stuff.

Re: Strange starting technique
One engine I think they use is a Cyclon-40. It's rated at 3200watts at 31000 rpm. I read about Cylons after watching a Combat event video and the engines screamed like that. Amazing.

Re: Strange starting technique
I had a babe bee do that recently, touched it with the glow clip and it lit off. It had been sitting there for more than a few seconds after a recent run.
