Re: Just joined
Hi Rex.
Glad you decided to add another one of we Aussies to the group.
Some of our guys have developed some hop-ups for the Cox reed engines. Mostly these engines were used in our Tach Races. No actual flying, just pure RPM.
The original "Reed Speed" competition focussed on profile scale models, but the current speed contest is pretty light on rules and can involve just about anything with a Cox engine that'll fly.
If there's anything in particular you want to ask, then just ask. These blokes are always up for a chat, and giving advice.
You need to be a member for a short while before you can post pictures. There's instructions on how to do that somewhere. I'll try to find them and post them here.
Cheers.
Rod.

Re: Just joined
Welcome to CEF, Rex. We have those here who enjoy speed reedies and other Cox engines. Me, I'm a sport user. There's really nothing earth shattering about posting. Admins have limited new posters to posts only until they have posted sufficient number of messages, don't know the threshold, but you'll get those privileges to upload photos soon enough if you continue posting. I gather this was done to keep spammers away.
We look forward to what you have to share.

Re: Just joined
Hi Rex! Welcome to the Cox Engine Forum. I'm sure that you will enjoy your time spent here. There's a wealth of information available.. and lots of friendly fellow modellers who enjoy these model-engines.
Re: Just joined
Reed Speed should be fun, a good way to get started is build a Killer Bee style engine
with a light weight piston, good fit, polished cylinder walls, mylar reed, large intake
venturi, good glow plug choice / compression etc. TD style exhaust ports, polished
bypass ports and flutes. Sealed NV 128 TPI very well centered low weight balanced
prop and centered vibration free low weight minimal spinner, thrust plate, low drag
crank to crank case fit with no slop.
For a base line reference:
Static: 4x4.5 prop 25,516 rpm / 107mph pitch speed / 7.1oz thrust / .132hp- 98.47W
25% nitro 20% castor.

Re: Just joined
stay with the product or Killer Bee back plate for some RPMs if that is what you want and not the Bee tank style , here is some more read maybe a little different than the other ...https://www.coxengines.ca/files/newsletter7.pdf
