I've been away hiking in the Alps for a week and I just read your last posts from 4 July onwards. A shame the foam tyres didn't stay on. You need to glue them on with CA glue on many spots between the wheel and the tyre. But you're making progress. I still think foam tyres will give the best results as you have a big contact surface.

Good luck!!

Thank You Lieven! I'd love to see any photos that you may have taken in the Alps.. It must have been a great experience!

You may have read in my 7/4 post; that I'd lost one of your foam tires when I launched the car. Well.. I reviewed a vid (not posted) of that launch and saw (approx.) where the tire went. I went looking again and found it. Neither tire suffered any damage.. so I may revisit mounting them with CA as per your recommendation.

Rod Boreham (oldenginerod) cautioned against using the elevated tether-post that I made, because when the tether is "taught" it could cause the car to lift on that side.. which is the traction-wheel side. I think that he's right.. but the bridle-design allows it to float vertically a few degrees, which I hoped might lessen that effect.

This is a video on Youtube where a guy glues some 1/12 tyres. He takes his time to explain.

Thank you Lieven. I enjoyed that vid.. and I know that I will recall the technique, should I source any foam tires that are the width of my "Phatt-Tire" wheel arrangement. In metric terms.. that is 25mm (width) x 35mm (wheel dia.) x? Huh... 6-7mm tread thickness? About the same thickness as the ones you sent me. Smile

I will re-mount the "pair" of foam tires that you sent me.. using CA. I only have "thin" and "gel" grades. I'm assuming that the "gel" might be a slower-bonding glue? Huh...

I had previously mounted your tires onto "one" of my 13mm width x 35mm PVC wheels using only double-sided film-tape. I wanted to try a "non-destructive" mounting method.. which resulted in an immediate-failure.. and temporarily loosing one of the tires.. Rolling Eyes

I will CA-mount the pair onto that wheel today.. and have the assembly on "standby-status". It's a quick and secure wheel-swap since I sourced the 5-40 threaded black-oxide cap-screws. A 3/32" hex-key/Allen-wrench tightens the wheel securely.

Bravo! Good show. Never give up! You are tremendously talented in design and development of the Roddie Eliminator.  I didn’t brew any coffee, cause if I did I’d be up all night at this point. Very well done videos, and you did get some laps completed,Yea!
I think the higher RPM the engine needs to operate at is creating centrifugal force that streches the rubber off the alum rim. As you noticed the rubber is quickly worn down to a slick. Did you ever watch a nitro dragster start a 1/4 mile run? The rear wheels spin and the slicks get taller and skinner. If I remember correctly back then the racers would use Sheetmetal screws thru the wheel rim into the bead of the tire to help keep it on the rim. I also think that the older teather car racers used a two part “clam shell” type of aluminum rim that sorta “clamps” the rubber tire between the rim halves to help prevent this from happening at high RPMs. Cox on the other hand uses plastic gears and or worm gear drives to convert the high Rpm motor to lower Rpm for the drive wheel(s). I up’d my 2cents to a full Nickel!!

Well, you won’t win any speed records, but I am really glad you saw it through! Good job Man!

I bet that old 25% nitro is more like 5% now might be why it was lacking a little performance and hard to start? Who knows.

Good stuff Roddie, thanks for raking the time to share that with us!

Now the Rare Bear!
