I was given this used about a year ago in rough shape. Wish I had taken a photo of it. Monokote everywhere, nacelle and booms included. Power was a crusty golden bee with a red tank drilled for an external wing mounted tank, it did have a .051 Tee Dee cylinder. I had to brace a crack in the leading edge, the trailing edge was so banged up I sliced 1/8" off and replaced it. Center sheeting was replaced, nacelle needed work, tail booms and elevator were replaced with new. It would have been less work to scratch build a new one .

Here's the result, in polyspan and duplicolor Chrysler orange.

I maidened  it today, I forgot how fast these suckers are and didn't realize how Rusty I am. I had my hands full with a 6x2. I'm a little off because I'm fighting a cold and just about lawn darted it with an apc 5x3.

Good times!

"It would have been less work to scratch build a new one." Amen to that Jim. But what a nice little model it turned out to be.

Man that's cool! I got a NIB Goldberg kit. I wanna build it, but then i won't have a nib Goldberg kit.... Lol
I think brodak sells them. I gotta buy another one to build. Mine was a gift from a friend, so it's kinda neat to have.

Looks good Jim!

It looks great. Those little planes are really badass fast and hilariously fun with Tee Dee power, I love to fly mine for an audience. Ron has flown mine too.

I have two suggestions for Dane and anyone else thinking of building one... add 1/4" square balsa spars to round out the airfoil, and it will fill in the starved horse rib bays and give it more lift. If I did it today, I would have added them to the high point, but it still worked for me. As you can see, I also face mounted some shear webs, but didn't do them exactly right, they should have been full width between the ribs. I was still learning a lot back then. It was my first scratch build.

Also if you are going to use modern adhesive covering like Monokote, you should add about 1/2" of width to each side of the center sheeting so as to have plenty of area to iron the covering onto. This is because you have to cut away a strip to expose balsa to glue the booms onto. With silkspan I guess you just glue the booms right onto it at the edge of the sheeting. You can see where I realized this after I had already partially installed the original sized sheeting.

Thanks guys,

On the last one I built I omitted half of the ribs and added 1/16 sheeting back to high point of the airfoil. I would have done that on this one but I wanted to keep it original as it was built from the kit.

I tried to get video today but my phones storage is full.

That's a better idea than the spars. Easier too,
Rusty
