whitch cox engine have i got???
Hi People!
I was wondering if you could help me recognize a cox engine i found.
I have no packaging so i do not know what type it is.
It was bought new from a norwegian hobby dealer about 10-15 years ago.
The only engine i found pictures of on the web that i think looks the same are a Stunt Bee, but i'm not shure..
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey, welcome to the forum!
The Stunt Bee was put together by Cox International in Canada - they have only been around for a few years.
What you have is a post 1996 Estes era .049 Black Widow. You are missing the starter spring and cam. Not necessary though.
You can find it on this page ~

Re: whitch cox engine have i got???
ah!
thank you very much!
if you take a look in the corner of my picture the starter spring is there..
It's just not mounted on the engine!
I have a large can of RC Car Nitro fuel. can i run the engine on that? Just add castor oil?
I have been searching the web for what fuel to use, but everyone has different opinions..

I am doing the same thing. Do you know what the oil percentages are? You should have 20% oil, at least half of that percent should be castor.
This is a handy tool for finding the correct amount.

Re: whitch cox engine have i got???
If you want to go an easier route, Sig Champion 25 is a good fuel. Also GlowPlugboy 1/2a Rocket Fuel.

Hello Mate
Welcome to the forum.
I'm not sure what availability of castor based fuel is like in Norway, certainly a lot of the other guys
on the Forum in mainland Europe seem to struggle to get hold of it....
These guys in Holland seem to have it though,-

hi, and welcome!
about that starter spring and cam, it's best if you don't buy them, because they will scratch up the engine's finish.
good luck!

Re: whitch cox engine have i got???
There's one brand that still sells some as a run-in fuel, and that's Graupner.
But i purchased it a while ago and coxaddicted told me something about it not being available anymore, so i'm
unsure of whether they still make it =/

It'll be a shame if they don't, anything from Graupner's gotta be good.

Re: whitch cox engine have i got???
thanks for the warm welcome everybody!
castor based fuels are almost impossible to come by here, so I guess I'll be mixing my own.
this engine will not be flown much, so I think I can live with mixing it myself.

It's, without question, a Cox .049 and most likely assembled from assorted parts.

As said it's a Black Widow.
Surfer_Kris lives in Sweden and can probably tell you where he gets fuel, and it can't be that hard to get it over the border.

It's an old Thunder Tiger 'Mr. Mulligan' electric. Kind of gutless; I think the battery was toast, so all it could do to float around 3' off the deck. If that.
Swimming against the tide, I electric to glow converted it with a ratty BW I got off ebait. Note rubber plug where tank had been drilled for external tank. I also filed the hex drive round: the points were all rounded off and nasty looking, and not like it is NIB anyway.
Waiting for a calm morning to try it. Throttles nice on the ground tho'.
