Crank case anodizing

If you think that the inside of your crank case is anodized well maybe it is an old gold bee which lost its anodization by rubbing it of after multiple cleaning anodizing It's possible to do it I myself made my own pieces Here in Quebec I take advantage of a very cold temperature I can almost do grade three anodizing military application Which is much harder thicker With my technique I can manage to save old crank cases If they are not too damaged

Anodizing is not what gives alloy it's colour. It's my understanding that all Cox machined crankcases, whether coloured or not, are hard anodized. Otherwise the unbushed case would wear out very quickly.

All cox 049 extruded crankcase are hard anodized regardless of colour
Which is only a dye and irrelevant all diecast cases are soft and wear

Anodizing and hard anodizing are two different processes. I believe Cox used anodizing and sealing, sealing being what improved the wear.

I know that...I did type 3 hard anodizing in the Airforce.

All anodize is sealed. Hard anodize and standard anodize are two different processes. The anodize on Cox cases is very thin. It is not hard anodize.

We also know that plain cases are not anodized. This is easily proven with a surface conductivity test. Plain cases do wear quickly which is why anodized cases are chosen for high performance applications. Even standard anodize offers a great improvement over bare aluminum. There are plenty of old anodized cases worn through to bare aluminum.

One thing I've always been curious about is the alloy Cox used for the cases. I assume 6061 as that would be very common.

It is possible that some crankcase Either anodize without coloring ????I don't really know Even without coloration The layer would be noticeable With a small tool we can scratch the surface we can feel it hear it sound difrent from just plain aluminium and a friction test I did tests on my own piece The tool slides then leaves a mark that I can erase with my finger, the surface is stronger than the tool When I pierce the protective layer That I mark it deep it Feel Difrent than normal aluminium Makes like a strange squeak sound In principle I believe that we can verify in another way non-destructively with a multimeter Simply measure the conductivity of the surface If it is anodized the resistance increases
It is verifiable my I doubt that it is the case Because if the pieces would already be plated I noticed it I think That I couldn't have anodized them easily The best is to test it
