Ya know there has been discussion about the Black SBJ and i wanted to see if i could make one (( for my Prop Rod )) , so i got one i have ran before and put it in the cleaner full strength Simply Green to get it good and clean!! And it did with the help of the sonic cleaner and some 120 F heat  10 mins. in the vate and well see for yourself .. black - The Dye that Didn't take  Img_2027

Then into the Blk dyen full strength at 140f 10 mins.  black - The Dye that Didn't take  Img_2031

OK now for the results looks good so far . black - The Dye that Didn't take  Img_2033

After rinsing with water .. black - The Dye that Didn't take  Img_2034
O well lets clean it again !! I know the reed retainer came apart was stuck in there when i took it apart ??!?!? Need better dye for plastic only comes in Charcoal Gray !!

I do not know what the instructions say, but what if you removed it and just let it sit and air dry?

Might need more heat to open up the pores in the nylon for it to take the dye. Either that or $300 and I’ll sell you mine. Smile

Thanks Jason ,But i think i will pass for now maybe more heat ? Chancey the dye should not wash off if it took to the product . Well i took off to walmart and they had the other dye i want to try but haven't gotten to it yet black - The Dye that Didn't take  2019-011

My experience with dying nylon, is that the dye bath needs to be boiling, and the nylon needs to be un-pigmented.

Happy Update on dying your own SBJ Black

OK i finally got around to boiling the SBJ tank parts to try to make black , and it turned out as good as the ones i have seen . Boiled about 30 mins. in full strength rinsed after cooling and here we go.. black - The Dye that Didn't take  Img_2044
