Re: How does your Garden Grow
Will have to write only as it is currently raining out now.... Just built a new 2' x 10' raised bed last week and filled up yesterday with both soil and plants. Mostly peppers and a few tomatoes. Will try to get pictures tomorrow. My last raised bed of over 10 years that was 2' x 20' finally rotted out. I had to replace it.

Re: How does your Garden Grow
Well, I took a photo, but am currently embarrased to post it as my 'garden' is still small. Plus, someone forgot to water it for a couple of days so the plants need some attention..... I moved the garden location as well as I used to have a 'canopy' over top of my old one and my new one does not. I never realized how much my corrogated plastic roof helped till now. It appears that it helped keep the moisture in, but I may be wrong. Seems liek I need to learn, I mean remember to water it daily.....

Re: How does your Garden Grow
Thanks Eric & Bob , nice peony’s Bob. This is phase 1 , I am going to fill the beds half way with oak firewood. And then dead leaves and grass and top it off with what Bob suggested. When these are operational I am going to build a couple more. I built a small one out of rough cut hickory for my asparagus bed

Me too. Eric is blessed.
We had two German Shepards early in our marriage. Kim and Tin. Remarkable dogs. Bred them, had about six puppies. Fun time.
Peonys. I take no credit. The previous owner of this property planted them. I neither water or fertilize yet they come up every year better than the last. Beautiful flowers with an aroma that fills the kitchen. Just cut another one, filled the vase with water and watched an ant make it's appearance.

Re: How does your Garden Grow
Hi All,
My tomato plants are all confused with the extra weird weather.
Do they grow? Or fruit? 50/50.
I'm guessing I'll be harvesting 'smoked' tomatoes here...
Good luck on your growing season...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How does your Garden Grow
Due to the rains and I mean RAIN!!!! , I lost two of my pepper plants. 5 Tomato plants and all doing well. I have one very unusual tomato known as Black from Tula. This type of tomato was from the Ukraine. It has a shimmer of red but it's mostly a dark purple almost black in color. When sliced, they look like they're rotted inside. Amazingly good taste. They use these mostly for sauce due to their appearance. I tried them last year and they were the last to fruit so I planted it earlier this year. In addition, they don't seem to have resistance to insects like some of the other varieties I grow. I don't like to use chemicals but I do go out daily and wash them manually with soap and water.

Re: How does your Garden Grow
Hi Ken,
I try a different type of tomatoes each year. Two plants out of twenty. (Mum likes cherry/romas)
No luck so far on the on the 'larger' very interesting types. This year, yellow cherries.
Am about to 6ft stick them up.
Due to hit or miss 'huge downpours', I want to be able to throw a tarp on them...
Weird weather here. Hovering thunderstorms.
Ten miles east/west of here have had huge downpours, last few years.
The sewer systems, can barely cope...
Good luck on your growing season....
getback,
Basil is doing OK.
Last time I will plant Tyme though...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How does your Garden Grow
Hi akjgardner,
Jealous of the peaches. We are just 30mi north of Niagara region, famous for peaches here.
Ripe off the tree, cannot be beat...
Tomato wise... (I am not an expert, but somehow lucky so far... )
Last year I just pulled out the tomato plants, shook soil from roots and just laid them over.
Winter did its thing, and all nutrients are back in the soil.
Any twigs and dry stuff, I burn in the BBQ and mix the ashes into the soil.
After planting, I bag grass ( I make hay, not just having to cut it ! )
Spread it in the gardens. Same with any 'cutting/prunings'.
Saves on watering, and the best, No weeding !
And the birds love the worms/bugs/insects etc...
Also,
I got an easy path for 91yr old Mums walker to get her to, her sunny/shady spots.
She has an amazing garden.
We are are going count all the plants to bloom this year...
10 and counting so far,
This will be a nice summer...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
