Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
I was thinking 3 modern car batteries with lithium tech and make an air boat for the local pond.
Something I can sit in and get a hour on the water would be fun. Also thought about gearing
two together for a inboard drive, anything in a 8.5ft craft doing 35+ plus will be fun.
Quantum Glass batteries are coming out major game changer fast recharge, longer run times
more amps out. Will make manned quads more useful run times over a hour will be possible.
These are about to go in to mass production they are very far along.
Anyone can buy some motors and go fly around the local open areas today.
Other countries will make it within city air space faster than in America
paving the way for it to become the norm. This will reduce the use of
cars for out of town trips. Folks will first have two forms of transportation.
Later down the road wheels on the ground will cost the environment and
city streets more than air space. Pavements will start to last longer mainly
used for heavy freight and light E use traffic. One day it will be a crime to
start a small gas engine without a paid permit.

Great post, thanks for sharing!
Your quote reminds me of the Rush song, Red Barchetta, great song and lyrics.
- Code:
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

Cox Tee Dee .010 / DIY Throttle Sleeve / HQ Prop T2.5x2
Peak 29,635 rpm / 56 mph pitch speed.
Best idle reading 6,702 rpm / servo will help find / hold the sweet spot.
Note at the end the glow plug proved to be loose rotating to the
point of stopping the engine. Tight plug would have busted 30k
-Larger 3x2 prop gets 53 mph pitch speed
-Stock prop gets 33 mph pitch speed

So far ebay per the bottles shown just have to do some digging China has been manufacturing the lion's share.
For the 30, 50cc I used the Sullivans aluminum stopper kit.
Aluminum cap 30cc works with the hardware from Cox International 1oz tank.

1/2A Nut-thanks for the link....rather ironically I use these types of bottles for my diesel fuel mixes-but 500, 750 or 1-litre sizes....the small ones you posted are going to be quite useful for a number of uses..not just fuel tanks...

Them tuned pipes are a work of art! Since they been around for 40+ years, I guess it was trial and error in the design back then. Are the new stuff designed with computer simulations data/etc? Thanks for posting.
A friend worked for Akrapovic, he was a welder, his exhaust stuff was top notch, but your pipes are so clean.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
.8cc Profi pipe reduced for .020 / .010 use, mock up for visual cue with
design changes to best perform with the two displacements.
Engine values based on current best rpm obtained with no engine failures.
Profi pipe tested with .049 thru .07 engine types as shown. Max results up
to 51k with a Picco P Zero .05
Yes there is pipe software if you wish to create from scratch.
Formula to sort out setting up the pipe example:
- 1675(wave speed) x 160(timing) ÷ 8.5 (pipe length) = 31.53K rpm
Beyond the pipe design itself factors affect performance.
If the pipe is left bare cool air will slow down the wave time, static, staging and unloading all effected.
Pipe function is also dependent on power to weight, air temperature loading on the prop.
Higher percentage of nitro 15+ and oil 18 to 24% is typically best.
Understanding the different sections of the pipe will help determine best shape for broad
range use or low / mid range thrust / best peak rpm / engine type / timing & prop type.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
This is my tuned pipe setup featuring a TeeDee049 with SPI, Tarno carb and Kamtechnik turbo head and a Kyosho muffler and header to connect the engine to the tuned pipe with a silicone exhaust extender.
The "Operational length" including the curved section in the silicone extender is around 8.9", so the setup should boost engine rpm-s well above 20k.
For some reason - other than the SPI and the curved section that Brad says will not defuse the tuned pipe resonance - my setup does not catch the resonance frequency and limps below 18k..prop is 4.75x4 APC, fuel is 60/20/20 mixture.
Anyone with an idea why the setup fails?? ( the plug in the pipe tip is removed when the setup is tested and put back to prevent castor from dripping in my storage room )

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Prop is too big for bench running "on" the pipe.
In the air a 4.5x4 / 4.75x4 should unload and function well enough to enjoy.
To stage the pipe on the bench:
APC 4.2x4 / 4.4x3 / 4.6x3 for bench running fun.
You want to simulate the unloaded state not the static to discover
peak power and to observe pipe function on the bench.
You want to use a prop in the air that will unload within 500 rpm to 1.5k of MRP.
You want to hang the engine up so it drips out all the oil prior to start up.
Do not let the oil backwash into the engine during storage.
What is the length from center of the piston to MRP?

Thank you Brad, I will try a smaller prop even though the engine swings this one near 21k on the bench without the tuned pipe.
The length of the red line between MRP and the piston face is near 8.9 inch so the formula to calculate resonance speed of the engine returns near 30k.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Power is made when on the pipe, the goal is to stage the pipe on the bench.
In the air the pipe will cool some which slows the wave speed down allowing
pipe function at lower rpm.
Can measure from the center of the piston due to the cooling effect for more accurate results.
The stinger length helps to adjust for the cooling effect and improves back pressure.
1675(wave speed) x TD / 140(timing) ÷ 8.9 (pipe length) = 26.35K rpm
Did you chamfer the header for improved influx?
Optional:
Pipe prep will improve flow, no choke points.
Leave some material at the end for good coupler grip.
