Ahhh now I see it is the turbo plug that ha a chamfered foot that bottoms out in the head thus isolating the thread area from the combustion chamber volume...

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Yes this is the NANO III
Being so the design has been refined during the first two versions with a dash of the DART .09
approach in strength to handle very high speed flying without twisting in the tail or flutter in the
ailerons. Ailerons are next to do then the plane will be gutted and wood sealed with Balsarite to
avoid oil creeping followed by my favorite part brite shrink film covering. No idea what scheme
I will go with but must be high viz colors for sure something that can maintain vibrance at speeds
over 140.
Ailerons pattern that I will use.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Cool plane, reminds me of the o'l 1/2a pylon days. Have you ever considered just doing one aileron using an aileron horn and install servo inside?
Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Thank you Mark,
Yes almost went with one aileron on this build, but have throttle so might as well enjoy some acro with it.
When the engine stops the extra control will be a plus. After the trim flight if I have much elevator dailed
in I can take it out by raising or lowering the both ailerons providing the CG is on the high point of the airfoil.
Another option is two servos for mixing in flaps. I expect this one should dead stick well into the wind.
Once the wood is covered up will set the throttle with the pipe on to see what it can do, will make for a sweet
sound and good goo deflector. Will remove the back half of the muffler for better flow.

Brad the stock 050 RC muffler does not really retain bacpressue because its fit on the cylinder neck is very loose..do you think the tuned pipe will still work?

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Hello Mauricio, thank you for checking out my Christmas project
I hope to have it finished by this weekend. It has been cold and raining here all week,
I hope to finish covering it and perform a engine run to set up the throttle servo by Sunday.
If the ground is not muddy, windy or cold I will do a maiden flight and video record the effort for all to see.
I am not sure what color to use for the top of the wing and tail feathers yet, I wanted the underside a bright
color so that choice was easy. The fuselage carbon / kevlar weave pattern is unique and is my first time using
it so color choice decisions are tricky. I may go with a neon yellow for the top of the wing to bring out the yellow
kevlar weave in the fuselage.

thanks to you for sharing your projects!
One of the colors that most appreciate in the sky is orange, it becomes a light even if you use the common orange.
I have that orange applied to my AMA model with .010, although the speed of my model is turtle step compared to your Thunderbolt .05, I understand that you can appreciate it too ... I do not know, maybe!

Really looking good now! If you don’t mind me asking, what type, brand of covering are you using? Something other than monocoat?

Thank you gents! I am using Ultracote for all three colors.
Who wants aluminum back plates for TD .010 and TD .020?
I have a batch come in for testing then will release the link info if all goes well with the
bench tests. Thus far the fit and finish has no slop, tolerances are spot on aka tight fit,
perfect seal with the O ring. Tolerance CNC style. Comes with hex head screws, just add
oil to the O ring and assemble. This will insure no wasted air gaps, slop etc. to increase
best possible compression, no warp, cracks created by the bolts aka no leaky back plate.
CNC:
- Tight tolerances / better compression
- Hard mount / less dampening / increased rpm
- No leaks
- Superior cooling
- Never cracks, fades etc.
- Rare chance, get um while you can I had requested 6 of each!
Post engine size and quantity for an idea of how many would need to be made $10 ea.

Hi Eric I updated the post.
These babies will look good polished up or as is and very low weight! Late Christmas Gift but it's
better late then never. I had requested these to be made and want to extend the offering to others,
the machinist is top notch and willing to make them. Will bench test this weekend to get the results in
and post them after that the door should be open for all to enjoy in about 8 to 10 days..

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Tested the TD .010 mount this is a first no one has ever mass produced aluminum TD .010 back plates!
Best peak 27,929 rpm /should be able to tip 28k was a squeak NV away.
.015hp / 11.2w / 2.82 oz thrust / 33 mph static
This is very good considering I had a throttle sleeve on the cylinder.
Without it on would gain another 500 rpm ish. This engine has been
flown with the Lil Speedy over 70 flights per flight vid static 26,728 rpm.
The bench test below gained 1,211 rpm on a well used engine!

Hello Brad, I am glad to know that there is someone working to generate quality pieces! ... You can see them very well ... here I am with the manufacture of my own pieces, they also work well ... I will take into account your offer in future projects friend. For now, I made four pieces 020 for personal use ... and I'm covered.
A hug for you .... what about making acceleration rings? ... I keep carving nuts for that purpose!

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
10/4 Marleysky!
Yes Mauricio I have seen your TD .020 back plates they are very nice!
They weigh 7g per your post very robust, here we can compare the two types.
Are you making aluminum back plates for your TD .010?
What about instead of a throttle ring an RC carb for the TD .010 and .020?
The .020 can use a turbo plug as well, these upgrades are being considered at this time.
For those interested pipe in let me know. Another worthy upgrade would be an exhaust
system to use a pressure tap and to control the oily goo from splattering all over the plane.
For SPI there would be a simple header pipe to allow fresh air in, would still control the blast
of oil.
Here is a typical all up weight with the aluminum TD .010 back plate.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Yes it is heavier than your design, very good achievement.
In my case I initially wanted to keep the original shape, the one that comes from the factory, because aesthetically I like that conical shape and with the detail of the lip at the base, but I could calmly remove material and approach a weight closer to you. Anyway, I like it that way!
Carburetor for .010 and .020, that would be great friend !!
Regarding plates for the .010, I have made only for the two that I own, that is to say two plates, no more.
