I know that MECOA/K&B has some made from the original molds. https://shop.mecoa.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=36
Re: Tee Dee .09's
Mecoa's stock status says "In Process = Parts are in process and should be finished 2-12 weeks." It's said that for quite a while, I think...

I could order one right now, it says the stock status is good.
Re: Tee Dee .09's
I just picked up a TD .09. He had 2 and I considered it.
The Easy #4 was suggested to mr too... I thought a Jr. Ring might be too big for it... I always thought that was a .19 size...
Years ago I had a CL P-38 in air race paint... It was o ne of my only scale efforts. It had 2 x Veco 19s.

It's good for the .15, not the .09.

I was talking about the .15, you said your carb bodies were good didn't you? I don't know when they'll have them in stock for the.09, any time would be good I'm sure.
Re: Tee Dee .09's
Do you know whats cool about crashed engines? They usually only have a half of run on them, or less I've bought a couple that had been scuffed and fairly cheap, too...and find out its basically a new engine except for the scuffage.

Re: Tee Dee .09's
Yep, back in the mid 70’s I had a friend that was a manager at the local Monkey Wards dept store. At Christmas they sold a s*** load of Cox Bush Masters. In Jan, not surprisingly, they were returned in droves. Wards only had to return a part of the packaging for credit and were supposed to scrap the rest. I was able to ‘examine’ some of the ‘scrapped’ planes and in many cases the engines could not be turned over. There was a burr on the inside edges of the exhaust ports, like someone had stuck a screwdriver thro the ports to try to unscrew the cylinder? It was easy to scrape the burr off with an xacto knife and as you found they than ran like new (and actually were new) engines. BTW the Bush Master was NOT a good beginner’s plane. Some came back in smashed up pieces but the engines could usually be saved. To their credit Wards took them all back, no questions asked.jetpack wrote:Do you know whats cool about crashed engines? Too bad Wards went under. They do have a online store, but it is nothing like what it used to be. Once Mobile got their hands on it, they just let it go. It is starting to sound as if Sears is slowing down by every year. If you have a Menards, you may notice some Craftsman tools being sold there... Anyways, you do wonder how many perfectly good cox engines were junked after store returns and so on.

Yes, mine are still good...but one day I might want some "Bling" (The CNC body)

Re: Tee Dee .09's
I helped the guy online when he first started out having those aluminum carb bodies made by measuring all of the cases I had in my box. At least a dozen. This was due to me buying one of the first ones and finding out I had to lap it in to an old case in order to not have to press fit it on a new case. I am glad I bought a natural aluminum one instead of an anodized piece, I would have been disappointed to have to loose some anodizing even if it wasn't noticable after its in place.
My last order consisted of an .020 body and a couple colored .049/.051's with seals. I see he figured out a way around the tolerance problem with them where it isnt critical.
I have an .09 TeeDee set aside for flying. It is an Estes motor and it has an .09 Tarno carb. I always dreamed how it would do in a Herr Pitts kit. I bet it would be a handfull, past my ability right now.

Re: Tee Dee .09's
i always wanted a .010 powered pitts that could do 3d and had an exhaust throttle that would be amazing but now i know more about flight and how it is hard to get the right thrust to weight ratio and all that.
i am sure it is possible if you have alight but strong enough plane.

Re: Tee Dee .09's
Something like that probably wouldn't withstand starting stresses but I bet if a stick and tissue job was built up japanese style with a running motor transfered over to it would probably save some glue joints from popping. I've put .049's on a lot of my Comet free-flight kits and if it wasn't for the occasional kickback or have to work on getting the motor started is when all the destruction took place on the airframes.

Re: Tee Dee .09's
When were the Tee Dees last manufactured? I might get one for myself for Christmas to beef up my heavy Stuntman 23. Is the Tee Dee .049 the best bet for upgrading performance from a reed .049 and still being dependable?

I believe the end of the TD line was Estes' last try at making and selling Cox engines in 2005. Unfortunately Estes didn't make the engines very well and a hit from the electric market caused that to end.
Re: Tee Dee .09's
One thing I have not seen posted is that, if I understand correctly, Estes made some "Star Wars" RTF's that did not sell well and they lost a LOT due to the contract with a large retail store. I think that's when they decided to get out of the model airplane engine market.
A special group disposed of remaining engine stock. We started seeing less than stellar engines as they got down to "parts is parts" engines. The expert assemblers were either gone or not allowed to do the excellent job they had done previously.
If I understand correctly, all remaining parts were sold to Cox International.
George
BTW, I still have half a dozen or so of the Star Wars Episode I Droid Fighters, NIB.

Yes. They were sold off for about $6.00 each. They are powered by the Cox Sure Start. I saw a few (Naboo Fighters) that were intact except for the cylinder and glow plug.
Next came Sure Starts without plane for ~$6.00 each. Some folks were buying 20-40 at a time. I got a few.
