Cox pee wee .010?

Cox pee wee .010?
Hey I know the first cox .010 ever built was a half scale pee wee .020 it never left the prototype phase as results were not deemed satisfactory by LeRoy cox or Bill Atwood who designed the engine after the failiure of the pee wee .010 they went to the tee dee .010 this was a success and most of us still love them 50 years on.
So what I wa wondering is where is the pee wee .010?
I am sure they made more than one prototype so where are they/it if anyone has any details on what has become of this/these engine please let me know.
Thank you for your time.
nitraoirplane,

Re: Cox pee wee .010?
Cox did experiment with a reed-valve .010. (I still have some parts to the engine.)
How did you hear about this?

I can't remember how I heard about it but I hear thing from time to time.

What parts do you have.

Re: Cox pee wee .010?
I have a crankshaft, reed valve, spring astarter, and glowhead.
The reason I asked is because this is a little known fact about Cox. I never heard of a reed valve .010 until I started interviewing people that worked there. I've never seen anything published either. I think if they could have overcome the difficulties with the engine, it would have been a way cool venture. And personally, I think the problems with this engine were, in fact, the reasons why Bill Atwood was approached in the first place. It doesn't make sense that Cox would hire him to develop competition engines when Cox was already producing the best on the market. (Space Hopper.)

Re: Cox pee wee .010?
Wow how did you acquire them I suppose they are not for sale as they are rare all you need to make it go is a crankcase, thrust washer, tank, backplate, piston you get the point.
If I were you I would try and get the parts made so you could get it to run.

Re: Cox pee wee .010?
I got the parts from the machinist who made the first .020 and .010 engines. He said that maybe three .010's were made. (I don't remember for sure, I'd have to go through my letters to double check.)
I don't think I would make an engine from the parts. They're a neat piece of history and I'd hate to screw it up. I would probably run into the same problems that Cox had with their version.

yes I understand that I would have them in a lovely case.Mudhen wrote:I got the parts from the machinist who made the first .020 and .010 engines. He said that maybe three .010's were made. (I don't remember for sure, I'd have to go through my letters to double check.)

Re: Cox pee wee .010?
I have a bit about this in the Tee Dee section of my Wikipedia article on Cox Model Engines
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox_model_engine#Tee_Dees
I cant remember where I got it from but I was damn sure it was true at the time.
EDIT: I think I got it from here: http://modelenginenews.org/people/atwood.html The Atwood Story by Dr TC O'Meara Model Airplane News. January, 1979

I'll let you in on a secret:
Read Dr. O'Meara's article very carefully. Let me know what you discover.

Will do.
Re: Cox pee wee .010?
i quote,
"Bill's ingenuity was thus available in 1960 when Roy Cox needed help with an .010 size engine he hoped to produce. Roy wanted to continue using reed-valve induction in all his engines, but the tiny one wouldn't work. He employed Atwood to find a solution"
So it appears he had a pee wee .010 before going to Atwood.
So who deigned it? Roy Cox?
i shall have to try and find out.
