I got some odds and ends done over the last day or two. The gear struts were just pre-bent ones I had for the previous photos.. and were 5/64" (.078") music-wire. I bent-up a new gear of 1/16" (.062") wire and cut 1/16" ply-bracing for mounting to the firewall. This will make it easier for bushing the wheels I plan to use.

The rotor blades are wings, so to gain the most lift they need to have the convex side facing up to provode lift.  It's not the pitch of the blade that provides lift, but the airfoil (aerofoil in my language) section as it passes through the air.  The lower side, being concave, would make better use of the airflow to be able to spin the "wing" through the air at maximum speed, providing the greatest lift from the airfoil section.  So Roddie, from your pictures, I would suggest that the rotors would be far more efficien in providing lift if turned over the other way.

Now that I have some parts to assemble more reed-valve engines.. I hope to get back to this project. I'd gotten a lot of it built... when I was avidly working on it last. I'm not going to fuss much further with my unproven theories. I need to try to balance it for a C/L lead-out connection.. and see if I can get it off the ground. Stay-tuned.. Laughing

I've been thinking about model-projects started.. and stalled. Wanting to re-start some. Smile Thought I'd revisit this design. Then I had another thought.. Shocked  Maybe you'd like to join me in an obscure experiment in U-control auto-gyro design!! Eyebrows Eyebrows

It's unfamiliar territory.. ripe for more experimentation by brilliant minds like ours..  Very Happy

Roddie, somewhere amongst the items I have hoarded, there's a gyro article that uses the crankcase and crank of a Cox .049 for the rotor blades. I will take a look and see if I can post them. Since I've been on Coronacation, I've been just throwing things out left and right so I hope I didn't toss them. I have saved so many plans and boxes of models I've built, for years. I opened up the bag and dumped it all to make room in a double closet that stored this stuff. When do you really know that you've owned something long enough? Planes that were wrecked that have been sitting in the corner, well they went too. Sad, but I have to make room for the new.

Well done Ken, it sometimes isn’t any fun throwing things away, but you are better off in the long run.

So.............. (cough cough..) dust on this thread.. K..... I've done nothing outside of peering into a parts-bag at my design; on and off.. for the last how-many years?

No matter.. This is how projects put on the back-burner... get heated-up.

I have a Cox Apache replacement rotor-blade coming from Bernie (Canada)
