Das Ugly Stik
Mmmm! RTF to replace (and I quote) "With the Durafly™ Retro Series UglyStik, you too can experience what made this design a classic. 20~30 years ago it would've taken months to build an UglyStik from balsa. Then it would take hours of voodoo magic to make the motor run for an oily and noisy ten minutes. Not anymore! With the Durafly™ Das UglyStik you can be flying in a fraction of the time. No building, no tuning, no cleaning! "

Re: Das Ugly Stik
Ehh. I wouldn't buy it. If I wanted to fly a stick that looked like it was glow, I'd clean up my old midwest stick and put a OS46fx on it. Or maybe that almost new 1970s K&B .60 I have... It would really move on that engine....
As far as that voodoo magic goes, I need some. I can get my motors to run, but not run right. I'm hopeful about my recently acquired rebuilt OS 46fx though... And I'm gonna probably try to rebuild a OS 46LA out of parts from two different ones that are not running right. And my K&B just needs to be broken in.

I really can't see the point of fitting a plastic replica of a modern looking nitro engine, although the dummy diesel head on this one actually makes it look a little more authentic.

If they want to talk about wasted time, try figuring out all the rubbish about different motors (in-runner, out-runner, brushed, brushless), correct battery & ESC selection, chargers that don't blow your batteries up- it's truly a dark science.
Fill the tank, fire it, fly it, fill it again, fly it all day if you like, wipe it down & put it away. Get it out next time and do it all again. No charging, cool-down times, balancing, discharging, short-lived expensive and dangerous batteries. Give me "real" I.C. any day.
I will give electrics one thing. At least the authorities and complainers take longer to notice you doing something they don't like. Some how, because they're quiet, people seem to think they're safer to the public, but if a prop driven by an electric motor can haul a large plane around as good as a nitro or diesel engine, I reckon it will do you just as much harm if you get in the way.

This makes me think of the disgusting climax I found a while ago on Ebay.

I have to admit, I've thought of doing this myself, if as nothing more than a curiosity. I'm flirting with electric, but until they make one that smells like castor, I'll stick to my I engines.

What a waste of a perfectly good pee-wee. I would rather have a running pee wee than that junk.

I would rather cowl off my electrics so they look nice. Maybe with semi-scale features...the plastic nostalgia engines are silly.

Re: Das Ugly Stik
It amazes me that folks would go to such lengths to make an electric look like a glow.
Why not just skip a step and get the real thing? Oh wait... It's loud and wiping off a model is so taxing.
If electric is your thing then that's cool, but don't be a glow poser

At least it looks like a real glow plug shoved in the top of that film canister.

Wasn't there a project in one of the magazines where someone mounted a brushless inrunner to the back of an 049 in an old timer?

Yes there's a picture of it around here somewhere in an old thread. Pretty slick, but heavy I guess.
