Oops I was wrong I have never seen one in this box but I have seen them in the cardboard boxes.
Re: Never see one of these nib, great price!
The first one looks used. The back plate and glow head are in bad shape.

I think I see some "worked" screws on that backplate.

I don't think this engine is new. Looks like it may have been mounted once. I have nib cox engines and none of them were stuck.

Guys, I think it is new, what your looking at is corrosion, the seller even mentions corrosion in the listing. Because of dissimilar metals (tank backplate and screws) coming in contact with each other, especially stored in a damp environment, its not uncommon to see tank screw heads have corrosion on them look like that.
You'd be better off buying a 'like new' engine, then something like that, the cylinder bore might be so bad its junk, not a good thing.

I think it's new, too. The backplate screws look new, but with debris or corrosion in the slots. The same goes for the mounting lugs and prop screw. Normally, the first screw to show marking is the prop screw and it appears pristine.
The needle has rust as does the spring --- there is a pretty good rust bloom on the spring, enough so that it might fracture. A dry engine won't corrode or rust --- if the needle is rusted and corrosion exists, I agree with Mark, the cylinder may be junk. If it were stored with the exhaust slits open, there is a good chance it may also have rust. If the piston covered the exhaust slits, it may have developed a rust or pit ring where it was exposed.

A sad storry of an engine that sat on the shelf too long
Re: Never see one of these nib, great price!
Good call Mark, Those engines were basically the same as what cox put on the cessna centurion and cessna skylane182, Thats the first thing I checked after I saw the planes/parts were all there. I figured engines be all trashed by father time and no lube etc.
Fortunately they were pristing cond. I oiled them up and packed them away for my "old age " flying days.
why they didn`t just put the muffler on the BlackWidow049 and use those I don`t know. Probably to sell the BabeBee/goldenbee crankcases due to production/sales numbers etc.

for an ebay deal is in not bad. For a Cox nut you could do far worse.

The lube Cox applied at the factory will harden if the engine is old enough.
