Best way to repair Cox plane parts?
Okay so I have an early P40 Warhawk. Unfortunately UPS destroyed it as I found when I opened the box. I think it's repairable. But what would be the best way to reattach what has been broken off? Super glue? What would hold the best without looking horrible?

Welding plastic parts can be tricky depending on what type of plastic it is. I can't help with the looking horrible part, but JB Weld is as strong as it gets for high stress areas like the wing. You probably should buff off the shiny finish adjacent to the glue joints to give it better grip. It's not going to look new, but I think it will hold as well as anything. For low stress parts, maybe CA will do.G.O. Stang wrote:Okay so I have an early P40 Warhawk. Unfortunately UPS destroyed it as I found when I opened the box. I think it's repairable. Wait and see what others suggest before you dive in and try my suggestions. Some of these guys are better at this sort of thing than I am.

Re: Best way to repair Cox plane parts?
I went ahead and just used super glue. I know it's not the strongest, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try. It seems to be holding up well so far. Don't know when I'll get to try flying it, but for now it looks alright.
What was broken off was the vertical tail fin and the rear part of the right side fuselodge, the left landing gear, and the right wing was snapped but not broken in half yet.
Also the prop was broken. I glued it back together for show only. Do you know where I could get an original thimble drome 3 blade? I want to be able to use the original spinner.

It kinda depends on the break and stress the repair is going to see and type of plastic. The P-40, I think its a type of styrene(?) and model car cement works great. I like to use the thin 'watery' stuff you apply with a brush, it takes time to apply slowly, carefully brushing on the edge of crack to build up a 'soft' edge of glue prior to joining. Plastic cement will give you a better bond and if bonded properly can even be wet sanded and buffed if you wanted to.
If you're joining a wing use some type of clamp.

Bernie doesn't list that prop on his Cox International website, but if you e-mail him I bet he very well might have one. Look near the hub for the size, probably a 5-3 or a 6-3 three blade. Tell him what plane it came from.

Re: Best way to repair Cox plane parts?
Actually, this is crazy. I snagged a lot of 3 engines off eBay for $16 a minute ago. One just so happens to have the prop I need. Also I believe one may have a #4 cylinder on it as well.RknRusty wrote:Bernie doesn't list that prop on his Cox International website, but if you e-mail him I bet he very well might have one.
