Cox Space Hopper Questions
Hello all,
Is $65.00 a good price for a mint Cox Space Hopper? Looks like it's never been run as there are no screw marks on the mounting lugs, no fuel / stains anywhere on the venturi or needle assy. it has a good glow head and has excellent compression. Also, are the current pistons & cylinders and glow heads compatible with that engine?
The reason I ask is, one of the guys at my flying club has one for sale and he want's $65.00 for it but I'm not real familiar with and wanted to ask you guys first. He's going to hold onto it for me until I make a decision.
Thanks guys,
Shawn

If it's truly mint then yes!

Cool Thanks.Cribbs74 wrote:If it's truly mint then yes!
Also, are the cylinders, pistons and glow heads from Bernie compatible? If I buy it and decide to run it, I want to be sure I can at least those parts I ever need them.

If it is a "small head" then the top end needs changed out to use current glow heads. No big deal and likely a performance boost.

How do I know if it's the small head? I have pics but they were sent to my crappy pre paid cell phone so I have no way of posting them but I'm supposed to meet him at the field this weekend so I can look at it in person.pkrankow wrote:If it is a "small head" then the top end needs changed out to use current glow heads. Re: Cox Space Hopper Questions
The threads are smaller. A modern head will not thread in at all, it will sit on the very top of the cylinder. Surprisingly the head gaskets are the same despite the differences in the configuration.
I believe the head gaskets sit on the top of the cylinder in a small head, instead of dropping in, but I haven't handled one to be sure.
The modern cylinder will thread right onto the case though.
If it is a small head, new or used, I would save the piston, cylinder, and head and swap out for a new set if I was going to run it.

Re: Cox Space Hopper Questions
thanks, if you remember the thicker head fins compared to the cylinder of the early glowhead it makes it easy to spot on eBay, even if photo is fuzzy.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Thanks for the pics Mark. It looks to have the taper fin cylinder and the head without the little fin near the plug insert.
