need help on Medallion RC cylinder
Purchased a Medallion RC recently. It looks new, just that piston/ cylinder are old , and in-fact, no compression.
I need to buy a new cylinder / piston for this engine. I found that the cylinder stamped #4 on it, which is wrong cylinder because it have SPI, not suitable for exhaust throttle.
I try to install a most recent surestart cylinder, but I noticed that the cylinder's diameter seems way too large for the exhaust throttle. I try on my old pre 60's Babe Bee thin walled cylinder, it looks not suitable too, the thin walled cylinder too thin diameter for the exhaust throttle.
Thats means the diameter will be in between the most recent surestart cylinder, and older thin walled cylinder.
Anyone can help me to find a suitable cylinder please ? Matt did told me to try their ground cylinder, but I don't know the actual diameter, and also it don't have the skirt at bottom of the cylinder.
photo as show below:
wrong cylinder #4
The throttled muffler have tight fit with #4 cylinder.
Thin walled cylinder too loose .
The throttle muffler looks too small for normal Surestart cylinder

Re: need help on Medallion RC cylinder
I can help, I have some #3 ground cylinders. I will test fit one on a throttle muffler and send it along with the TD tank. I haven't ben able to make it to the Post Office yet to check on shipping.
Ron
Can you send me the fragged #4 in return?

Before I tell you some interesting facts about this little engine, just curious to ask you, my #4 piston/cylinder already badly lost its compression, and can't start at all, and a few plier marks on it ,( no , not me , I never use plier to remove cylinder ) you need it for display with that bad shape ? Just curious .
As for ground cylinder, I remove a cylinder from one of my old RC engine with throttle ring, and I found that the diameter for ground cylinder still too fat for the throttle muffler ! Thats weird, I don't even know that Cox cylinder have so many size. And the cylinder need to have flange at its bottom to make sure its free from muffer leak.
You mentioned No.3 ground cylinder, don't know if it fit , I will measure its diameter and let you know by tonight. Normally no.3 cylinder came with bottom flange? And no SPI ? i'm not familiar with No.3 cylinder. I've told that if its SPI type, I can add a cylinder copper gasket to remove it , to suit Throttle muffler.
Oh yea, as for the TD tank, take your time , I'm not in hurry at all.

Ew

Re: need help on Medallion RC cylinder
here's the funny part about this engine, I checked carefully the piston and the cylinder, I found that the piston looks a little small with lot of scratches, but the cylinder inner wall are ok.
I searched in my tool box for an used piston and it fit nicely! good compression and it run perfectly!
I didn't install the throttle muffler yet, because this cylinder come with SPI, I need to order cylinder timing shim to delete the SPI.
