Cox Engine of The Month
Bad batch of SIG fuel.
Bad batch of SIG fuel.
I was having trouble getting 2 tee dees I hadn't run before to perform as I expected. They would run great on the ground and level flight but when I would try back to back maneuvers they would bog down. It would take a full lap to wind back up, and they would slow by the end of the run. This was even with a 4.75x3 prop. It occurred to me that I was running these with a new quart of sig 25% and thought that might be the problem. I mixed up s batch of vp master blaster with additional benol and they screamed like I am used to this morning no mater what maneuvers I put them through. Has anyone else experienced this with sig?

Re: Bad batch of SIG fuel.
Not lately, but in Spring of 2012 I had some Sig 35 that sometimes would barely crank a Cox engine. And after flying with it, the glowplugs were white and would no longer glow. I went back to Glowplugboy and it ran great. Since then, I'm back using Sig 25, 10, and 15 and haven't had any trouble.

Few years ago, our local importer informed that they will stop selling Sig Champion fuel in our country, I purchased a couple of gallon. I used it to break in my new engine, I noticed that it won't give me stable run and lack of power even after 10 tanks of break in. I tried on others engines and proved that I have bad batch of fuel.
1/2A fuel in our country are extremely hard to get, I'm still try hard to solve local 1/2A users fuel problem. so far, I temporary used RC Car fuel that contain 11% of synthetic lubricant, add another 11% of raw castor in it.

I'd say you must have mistakenly run your engine on something out of the liqour cabinet.

Made by VP Fuels. I add Klotz Benol to bring it up to 20% oil. If they have it in your country get it, best
fuel I've ever used.

Re: Bad batch of SIG fuel.
Hi Jim, thanks and yes, I can buy this fuel in my country easily.
Hi Dave, I double checked that day on my rack, I'm thinking that I'm using my wine for the break in job too!
Anyway, its not Sig Mfg's fault, I'm using Sig fuel for the past 20 years, and only very last batch toyat give me problems. I believe that the local last batch not stored well, and exposed to sun light for long period.

Sorry to make lightly of your fuel problem but I couldn't resist.
It"s summer and the "silly season"!
(I've been running Sig 25 for many years without a problem)

Re: Bad batch of SIG fuel.
I got a couple quarts of Sig Champion 25% and haven't had any issues with it. My .020's and Babe Bee car engines seem to love it.

Re: Bad batch of SIG fuel.
And I have the dregs of a quart of Sig 35 that I bought this Spring, which runs fine. I just haven't used the rest because the 25 runs fine. I'll use it when I'm low on fuel one day. Or maybe pour it into a half quart of 25 sometime. It was only the one time over a year ago that I suspected it was a bad batch.

Re: Bad batch of SIG fuel.
Sun Light and water are the big killers of all glow fuel
In a high humidity area every time you open a partially filled jug of fuel, the water in the air gets rapidly absorbed into the methanol
I still do NOT understand all the suppliers except a few that sell the stuff in clear jugs... opaque containers are necessary to keep sun light from deteriorating the mix.
I ask for and get a few of the empty metal fuel cans at my local hobby store that only really supports RC cars. I store ALL my fuel in the metal cans.
It still astounds me how many at my local field leave a part full gallon out in the sun all day long
Once methanol has absorbed water you can NOT separate it out ...water requires 212F to go back to gas form and methanol does this around 170F
